Dorothy M. Sutherland

1930 ∼ 2026

Dorothy M. Sutherland, a beloved mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, and cherished member of her community, peacefully transitioned to eternal rest on February 16, 2026, in Nederland, Texas, at the age of 96.

Born on January 5, 1930, in Port Arthur, Texas, Dorothy lived a life full of love, dedication, and service. She spent many rewarding years as a part of the payroll and accounting team at Port Arthur Independent School District, where she took immense pride in her work and cherished the relationships she built. She was known for her kindness and commitment to her job, demonstrating not only a strong work ethic but also a profound love for her community and the children she served.

A proud member of the Republican Women of Beaumont, Dorothy actively participated in local events and showed great dedication to her beliefs. Her vibrant spirit was lovingly nurtured by her family, who remember her fondly for her enthusiastic laughter and joy in living each day to its fullest. Among her greatest joys was spending time at Lake Sam Rayburn, a place where she created countless memories with loved ones.

Dorothy leaves behind a legacy of love and familial devotion. She is survived by her daughter, Teri Jenkinson, and her husband, Jay, of Nederland; her daughter, Kelly Cormier, of Lumberton; and her son, Clay Sutherland, of Groves. She was the proud grandmother of Kala Morales and her husband, Justin; Jasper Worthy III; Jarret Jenkinson and his wife, Hannah; Shana Worthy; and Lindsay Strange and her fiancé, Kirk. Her heart swelled with pride for her great-grandchildren: Jaxin Morales, Alexis Worthy, Koltin Morales, Dustin Nauls, Luke Strange, Tessa Nauls, Blake Jenkinson, and Liam Dean.

Dorothy was preceded in death by her beloved husband of 57 years, Lester Sutherland; her parents, Pete and Clara Moore; and her brother, Elvin Moore. Their memories will forever hold a special place in the hearts of those left behind.

Family and friends are invited to gather in remembrance of Dorothy on February 23, 2026, at the Melancon Levingston Funeral Home, 5601 39th Street, Groves, Texas. Visitation will be held from 11:00 AM to 12:00 PM, followed by a funeral service celebrating her life from 12:00 PM.  A graveside service  will be held immediately following the funeral service at Greenlawn Memorial Park in Groves.

In this time of sorrow, we honor Dorothy M. Sutherland—a remarkable woman whose love transcended generations. Her legacy will live on in the hearts of her family and all who had the privilege of knowing her.
