Dorothy Louise Weeks, 85, of Port Acres passed away September 15, 2019. Dorothy was born October 10,1933 in Jonesboro, Louisiana to the late Roy Columbus Lee and Lula Mae Flurry Lee.
She is survived by her three sons, Douglas Weeks and his wife, Kathy of Nederland, Jamie Weeks and his wife, Sarah of Port Arthur, and David Weeks and his wife, Cheryl of Nederland; 8 grandchildren; 8 great-grandchildren; and her little dog Cricket that she loved dearly.
She is preceded in death by her parents; her loving husband of 63 years, Claude Ray “Sonny Boy” Weeks; her granddaughter, Michelle “Missy” Weeks; and two brothers, Billy Roy “Bubba” Lee and James Clayton Lee.
Dorothy graduated from High Island in 1952 where she and Claude were high school sweethearts. He was the quarterback of the football team and she was a cheerleader. She also played basketball, was voted football sweetheart, homecoming queen, most beautiful, and class favorite. They married shortly after she graduated on December 27, 1952.
Dorothy and Claude enjoyed traveling and collecting antiques. They were members of United Pentecostal Church in Bridge City. Dorothy retired from Port Arthur School District after working in the school cafeteria for 28 years.
She was a wonderful cook and her gumbo, jail house rolls, pancakes, and carrot cake are legendary in our family.
Dorothy was a loving, devoted wife, mother, and grandmother. She loved her family dearly and will be greatly missed by everyone.
Our family would like to thank everyone that helped care for Dorothy in her time of need. And a very special thanks to her neighbors Charles, Nancy, and Kasey Rose for always being there to lend a helping hand.
A gathering of family and friends will be held on Wednesday, September 18, 2019 from 5:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. at Melancon’s Funeral Home in Nederland. Funeral Services will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Thursday, September 19, 2019 at Melancon’s Funeral Home with interment to follow at Greenlawn Memorial Park in Grove.
