Douglas Wayne Erwin

Douglas Wayne Erwin, a beloved husband, father, brother, and friend, departed this life on July 2, 2025, at the age of 75, in Groves, Texas. Born on April 24, 1950, in Port Arthur, Texas, Doug led a life characterized by dedication to family, diligence in his work, and a passion for adventure.

Doug was a proud member of the class of 1968 at Port Neches-Groves High School, where he nurtured lifelong bonds and cherished memories. He continued his education with a Bachelor's of Science degree, which laid the foundation for a successful career as a Project Engineer at Huntsman Corporation. After serving with distinction for 42 years, Doug retired, leaving behind a legacy of integrity and excellence. He took pride in his work, ensuring that every task was completed to the highest standards, never cutting corners.

In addition to his professional accomplishments, Doug served honorably in the Texas National Guard for six years, demonstrating his commitment to service and community. He was a man of few words but enjoyed the company of others, often seen quietly engaging with friends and family.

Doug possessed a profound love for travel, relishing in new experiences and the beauty of the world around him. His passion for adventure was matched only by his devotion to his family. He is survived by his beloved wife of 34 years, Terri Erwin, and their children: daughter Amber Abshire and her husband, Lucas, of Tomball; son Darrin Erwin of Groves; son James Sandlin of Portland, Oregon; and daughter Chelsea Potter and her husband, Kirk, of Kingwood, as well as 10 grandchildren.  Doug also held a special place in his heart for his fur babies, dogs Lady Bug and Jericho.

He was the cherished brother of Jill Westbrook of College Station, Tommie Erwin and his wife, Sara, of Groves, and Kenneth Erwin of Port Arthur. Doug’s warmth and kindness extended to numerous nieces and nephews, who will dearly miss their loving uncle.

He is predeceased by his parents, Carnul and Edith Erwin, and his brother, Kenneth Erwin. Doug's memory will forever be etched in the hearts of those who knew and loved him. He leaves behind a legacy of love, loyalty, and the spirit of adventure that will continue to inspire his family and friends for years to come.

To honor Doug's memory, the family request donations be made in his honor to the Colon Cancer Foundation or Liver Disease Foundation.

Doug will be missed by many. He helped me out on 2 different occasions without me even asking for help! He was always there and you could count on him. He was a driving force in keeping our class together these many years. Always wishing one a Happy Birthday, posting obits of classmates that have passed and in keeping us all in the loop. Rest In Peace my longtime friend. We will keep you in our hearts until we meet up again!
