Douglas Riley Norwood

1950 ∼ 2011

Douglas Riley Norwood June 10, 1950- September 24, 2011 Douglas Riley Norwood, 61, of Orange, Texas passed away on Saturday September 24, 2011. A lifelong resident of the area, Douglas was born in Port Arthur, Texas on June 10, 1950. He was the son of the late Doris Duplantis Norwood and the late W.R. Norwood. He graduated from Thomas Jefferson High School in 1968. Douglas worked as a Draftsman and Senior Stress Analyst for Matrix Engineering and CB& I for 30 years and Richard Design Services for the last six months, where he made many wonderful friends over the years. Doug loved nothing more than mornings spent fishing with a friend in his prized Ranger boat or taking his grandbabies for a boat ride on Lake Sam Rayburn. He also spent many afternoons singing Willie Nelson songs on one of his favorite guitars. He was a kind and generous man who was well-loved by friends and family. His death has left a large void in the lives of his many friends and his devoted family including his several adopted children. He is survived by his beloved wife of 39 years Karen Norwood; his daughter Stacey Vickers and her husband Matthew of Dickinson, Texas; his son Kevin Norwood and significant other, Deedra Mann of Houston, Texas; his son Keith Norwood and his wife Lindsey of Mauriceville, Texas; his sister Christie McNeill and her husband Charles of Nederland, Texas; his brother Roland Norwood and his wife Connie of Vicksburg, Mississippi; and his five beloved grandchildren, Chloe, Emma, Parker, Case and Cole as well as his nieces and nephews. A vigil will be held on Monday evening from 5 to 7 pm. Funeral services will be held on Tuesday at 2 pm at Levingston Funeral Home in Port Neches with interment to follow at Greenlawn Cemetery in Groves.

I graduated from TJ with Doug, and as too often happens, lost contact with him after Lamar. While I'm proud to read of the man he became, I'm not surprised-Doug was always so pleasant, so thoughtful and so sweet. I add my mourning his passing to those who knew him far better than I, but celebrate his time on earth as he lived it well his entire life.

Karen, I don't really know how to express the feelings for the loss of my good friend Doug. Nor the love I have for your family. I enjoyed working with Doug in the early years at Tringle Engrs. Being around for the naming of the twins (Kevin & Keith). But,who would have thought that almost thirty years later I would get to work with them too. Talk about make you feel old. I could see Doug in both these young men. Talking with him again at CBI we exchanged family stories you could tell how proud he was of all you. He was a good husband, father, grandpaw & one Heck of good Piper. He will missed Greatly. With Loving Memory John & Karen Carnahan

To the family of Doug Norwood; I first met Doug in 2010. I had just married and accepted a position with CB&I in the same week and was wet behind the ears when it came to stress work. Doug and Kevin Gernentz took me under their wings and did their best to teach me the ways of the jedi. I will always remember Doug for his charming way of putting things. His old school thought and his ability to make even the most boring work fun and interesting. He had a passion for finesse. As evidenced when he showed me blueprints he had kept from his years as a drafter. Always with the DRN with the extra vertical to show his work. Doug had a way of telling you just why a certain way was wrong usually with a strong word and a boot up your ass. But he got results and helped me to become the engineer I am today. With a tear in my heart; Luke Prinsloo Piping Engineer Jacobs Engineering, Greenville, SC

Dear Karen and Family, I have worked with Doug for close to 30 years, and he was one of my favorite people. He was so much fun to work around, and I learned a lot working with and for him. I loved to hear him sing, it always brightened my day. My heart aches because he is no longer with us, but I know what I feel can not come close to what you are feeling. I know how much he loved you all and how proud he was of his family. My prayers and thoughts are with you all during this time, may you look to God for strength and comfort.

Dear Karen and family, I am so sorry to hear of your loss. Doug was a great man that I admired and respected deeply. At CB&I I needed a 'go-to' guy in the Piping Engineering department and Doug became just that, my go-to guy. I could always count on Doug to provide constructive criticism when asked to do so and not many people can do that. I always loved hearing his fishing stories and his fond recollections of time spent with his family and especially the grandchildren. My thoughts and prayers are with you.

Please know that I am lifting him in prayer and you also. These next months will be hard but with your Faith in God and knowing how Doug believed will get you through it. I was told 9 years ago that God put you here and he will pull you through it. Prayers are wonderful for healing. Much love to you!!

I have known Doug for over 23 years, & I feel privledge to be able to be able to call him my friend. From the times we worked together & I worked for him, to the times helping him build his home, or playing pool or just drinking a cold one together, there was never a doubt that he would some how put a smile on your face & make you laugh. I will always cherish those memories that we made, & you will be greatly missed my friend. To Karen & family our prayers are with you at this time, we have lost a good one, but we will meet again. From, as only Doug could say, "Your Big Old Coon Ass" take care my friend.

Karen and family, I have known Doug for over 25 years. I had the privilege of working with and for him on several projects over the years. He was always upbeat and had a gift for making people roll on the floor and busting at the seams laugh at anything. I could listen to his stories for hours. He taught me a lot about the business and also showed me what a good Husband, Dad and friend looks like. His pride in his family was obvious to all. I will never forget him and am better for having known him. My prayer is that you will look to Jesus to carry you through this difficult time. Also know there are a lot of people praying for you and your family. God Bless you.
