Dr. Harvey Henry Randolph, Jr.

1940 ∼ 2024

Dr. Harvey Henry Randolph, Jr.

Dr. Harvey Randolph passed away peacefully on March 16, 2024.

Harvey (Butch, Doc, et al) was born on December 22, 1940, in Galveston, TX to Harvey Randolph Sr. and Romaine Robson Randolph.  He grew up in Port Arthur, TX, attended Bishop Byrne School ('59) and Lamar University then moved to Kirksville, Missouri to earn his Doctor of Osteopathic Medicine degree. Upon completion of his degree, he returned to his hometown area to practice medicine for over 50 years.

Harvey met his wife, Carol, to whom he was married for 45 years, prior to Carol’s passing in 2010. Together, they had 4 children, Harvey Henry "Butch" Randolph III, Dana Lynn, Todd (wife, Tracy), and John (wife, Tiffany). Harvey had four grandchildren: Ansley Randolph, Weston Randolph, Ethan Randolph, and Greyson Randolph.

Having earned his Eagle Scout, Harvey had a great passion for leading others to the highest rank awarded in the Boy Scouts.  He was involved at the troop level as a Scoutmaster, at the Council level and nationally with the Scouts.  He was honored with numerous service awards at all levels in the scouts.  To Harvey, it was never about the awards, it was always about helping others see the value in Scouting and service to others. Harvey served at more than 5 National Jamborees as one of the staff physicians combining his love for the scouts with his profession of caring for others.

Harvey also served as the team physician for Bishop Byrne and Thomas Jefferson High Schools in Port Arthur for many years.  Seeing both schools play in state championship games and enjoying seeing some of those players go on to play football at major universities.

Continuing his service to others and duty to country, in his early 40’s, Harvey joined the United States Army Reserves as a physician. Harvey retired at the rank of Lieutenant Colonel after serving for more than 10 years, including active duty during Operation Desert Storm.

Although he did not attend Texas A&M, Harvey, ‘A(Associate) fell in love with the school, which 3 of his children attended. He was involved with and supported the Beaumont A&M Club for many years, Parents Weekend and rarely, if ever, missed a home game since 1987. He was a supporter of other organizations on campus as well, including The Corp of Cadets.

Harvey in preceded in death by his wife Carol of 45 years, son, Harvey “Butch”, brother, Gary Randolph, parents, Harvey Sr. and Romaine Randolph.

The life and legacy of Dr. Harvey Randolph will be celebrated with a visitation on Friday evening, March 22, 2024, beginning at 5:00 p.m. at Levingston Funeral Home in Groves.  A period of reflection with Pastoral remarks will begin at 6:00 p.m. with the visitation continuing afterwards.

In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to either Folds of Honor supporting families of fallen and disabled soldiers, or the St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital giving every child a chance to live their best life.

Doc was an extraordinary man of love, laughter, passion, courage, friendship and wit! My family and I spent many Aggie tailgates together through the years, and besides sharing the true Aggie spirit , he shared his love for us as if we were Randolph’s too! Todd & I became instant friends as fish camp counselor’s at A&M. As time went on our friendship turned into family & all of the Randolph crew became people whom we loved spending time with. When I gave birth to my first child, Dr. Randolph insisted that infant baby Kayla come to the tailgate. The next time I saw Doc he presented us with a beautiful framed collage of Kayla’s First Aggie Tailgate! Today she is the loudest & proudest Texas A&M class of 2021, and serves as a Head Start educator in College Station. Doc Randolph had a huge impact on both my children’s decisions to be Aggie grads! Doc will always hold a very special place in my heart, and my whole family is blessed with the years we built memories with him. RIP Doc, until I see you again. Jennifer Klose

My condolences to the family, friends, and former patients of this grand friend. I remember his children from their early youth, and Carol from their first years together. Much of our contact through years of practice was contact through Doctors Hospital and meetings of The Texas Osteopathic Medical Society. I personally had the pleasure of driving Dr. Harv to Missouri to introduce him to friends there and Kirksville College of Osteopathic Medicine (now A. T. Still University) when he enrolled there, since I had graduated there several years before. We remained friends ever since that time, and were in frequent contact until I retired in 1958 and left the area. I have not seen him in over 30 years. I think my brother, Dr. Ron Merwin (deceased), delivered some or all of the children. The accolades already mentioned by others reflect my thoughts exactly. Harv was a patriot, a patient man, a Christian, and an excellent doctor. My prayers go out for him and all who grieve his loss. God bless you. Know that he was a great man. Ralph C.Merwin, D.O.

Dr. Randolph was our doctor for about 40 plus years. He was a kind and caring doctor who really cared about his patients. As I was getting older probably about 10 years or so ago he said you remind me of my sister, I took that as a compliment! He will be greatly missed. My thoughts and prayers are with you all, don’t know if I can make it to the celebration of life, I live over two hours away! Prayers for the family!🙏🏻🙏🏻✝️💜😢

John, Todd, and Dana, I was so sorry to hear about your father's death. I had the great honor of working with both your Mother.and Dad in Scouting. They epitomized the Spirit of Scouting, God & Country, Family, and others. Your Dad and I became very close personal friends and I will miss him. May our Lord walk with you through this time of sorrow and give you strength.

Knowing Harvey for the better part of 40 plus years and my mom working for him I knew him as a sweet, caring doctor. Father and friend. He had a gift for diagnosing you when others could not. Our whole family used him for our aches and pains and his kind listening when needed. He will be missed. I am sure my mom welcomed him home to be with Butch and Carole and his brother, mother and father. Boy I would love to hear that conversation. Rest in Peace Doc.
