Dr. Randall Hampton Lofton, 69, of Port Arthur passed away at his home on Thursday, September 14, 2017. Randy was born in Port Arthur on October 18, 1947 to Ruth Hampton and Edwin L. Lofton. Randy was raised in Port Arthur and was a lifelong resident. He was a graduate of Thomas Jefferson High School and Lamar University. He had a love for medicine that started as a child and his dream of becoming a physician was realized when he received his medical degree in 1976 from Texas College of Osteopathic Medicine in Fort Worth. Upon completion of his pathology residency at Scott and White Hospital in Temple, he moved back home where he practiced for 32 years as a board-certified anatomical and clinical pathologist. During that time he served on the medical staff at Park Place Hospital, Mid Jefferson County Hospital and The Medical Center of Southeast Texas. He was an advocate for his hometown, serving as a Pleasure Island Commissioner as well as a board member of The Port Arthur Chamber of Commerce, the YMCA, Jefferson County Medical Society and MBank amongst others. He had a special affinity for Pleasure Island and worked tirelessly over the years to develop the "hidden treasure" into a regional attraction. He never gave up on that dream or in his hope for Port Arthur. He was a member of the Bachelor Club of Port Arthur, the Port Arthur Club and the United Methodist Temple. He had previously served as a Deacon and Elder at the Presbyterian Church of the Covenant and enjoyed singing in their choir. Randy was an enthusiast in the truest sense of the word with a collection of diverse interests and pursuits throughout his life. Whether it was woodworking, exercise, fishing, birdwatching or a wide variety of other pursuits, he always enjoyed learning new things and sharing them with others. He had a vast knowledge, including lots of random trivia, which entertained many as did his quick and witty sense of humor. Most of all, Randys family was nearest and dearest to his heart. He was a kind-hearted, humble gentleman who will be missed by so many. He is survived by his wife of 41 years, Judy Lank Lofton, and their three children: Brett Hampton Lofton of Baton Rouge, Lindsay Lofton Lang and her husband Thad Scott Lang of Houston, and Laura Elaine Lofton of Houston. Nothing could bring a smile to his face faster than his granddaughters, Charlotte Elaine and Eloise Elizabeth Lang. Amongst many other loving family members he was also very close with his niece Amber White, her husband Eugene and their two children Gianna Ruth and Eva Judy of Aledo, TX. He was preceded in death by his parents as well as his sister, Anne Lofton. The family would also like to express their very sincere and heartfelt thanks to his caregiving angels: Anghilia Kithler, Sabina Perez, Albina Levia and Kenia LeDoux. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to the Port Arthur Historical Society, P.O. Box 1374, Port Arthur, Texas 77641 or to the Lewy Body Dementia Association, 912 Killian Hill Road S.W., Lilburn, GA 30047. A visitation for family and friends will be Sunday, September 17 from 4:00-6:00 p.m. at Levingston Funeral Home, 5601 39th Street, Groves, Texas. A memorial service will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Monday, September 18, 2017 at First United Methodist Church, 6501 Washington Street, Groves, TX 77619 with Reverend David Meeker-Williams officiating.
