Dwight Glenn Landry, 65 of Port Arthur TX passed away with his family by his side on April 20, 2014 at Magnolia Manor Nursing Home in Groves TX. He was born in Port Arthur TX on January 16, 1949 to the late David William Landry Sr. and Margaret Whiddon Landry.
Dwight was preceded in death by his parents and brothers, David W Landry Jr. and Darrell Landry. He is survived by his daughters Deanna White and Deborah Campbell both of Virginia Beach VA, four grandchildren, and two great grandchildren.
He was a 1967 graduate of Thomas Jefferson High School. He served in the US Navy and worked in the refining and construction industries before becoming disabled. Dwight was a gifted athlete in his youth and participated in organized baseball and Jr. Olympics. He became a skilled pole vaulter in his teens competing for his school. Developing an interest in music, he played bass guitar in local bands including the “Golden Aires”.
Dwight was a fan of all sports but particularly an avid follower of the Dallas Cowboys and Houston Astros. After he could no longer work, he had a daily routine of arriving at a favorite fishing spot before sunrise. He would fish before joining friends at the Boudain Hut for breakfast. Dwight generously shared his catch with family and friends.
Funeral services will be held at Melancon’s Funeral Home in Nederland on Friday, April 25, 2014 at 2:30pm with Father Stephen McCrate officiating. Interment will follow at Oak Bluff Memorial Park in Port Neches. A gathering of family and friends will be held from 12:00 noon until 2:30pm prior to the funeral service.
