E. Duke Thames, Sr., 76, of Lumberton, passed away on Monday, November 9, 2015, at St. Elizabeth Hospital. He was born August 12, 1939, in Beaumont, Texas, to L. Duke Thames and Ruth (Patterson) Thames. He was graduated from Lamar University in 1961 with a degree in Chemistry, then worked for B. F. Goodrich/Ameripol-Synpol in Port Neches until his retirement in 2000. Duke was an avid salt water fisherman, a lover of history, and gourmet cook. He was preceded in death by his wife, Marjorie Henderson Thames, who passed away this past July. He is survived by his three sons, E. Duke Thames, Jr., (Cindi) of Bloomington, Indiana, Woodrow S. Thames (Carol) of Superior, Colorado, Benjamin P. Thames (Susie) of Groves, five grandchildren, and his first wife Kay Speer Thames. A gathering is scheduled for Saturday, November 14, at Levingston Funeral Home in Groves, Texas, from 10 - 12. In lieu of flowers memorial contributions are encouraged to be given to the Humane Society of Southeast Texas. Finally, our family would like to thank the family of Dale and Vicky Henderson for their continued support.

Duke was a good hearted soul and a joy to be around. I likely went on more fishing trips with Duke than my own father.. Rest in Peace Duke. We're going to miss you.
