Edith Pate, 104, a resident of Groves since 1936, passed away on Friday, May 24, 2019, at Magnolia Manor. She was born in Lafayette, Louisiana, on September 16, 1914, to parents Alec Broussard and Emelie Bourque Broussard. She moved to Port Arthur when she was a young child. Preceding her in death were her parents, husband Vernon H. Pate, infant brother Wayne Broussard, brother Neal Broussard Sr., and sister Mable Mary Fenn. She is survived by her children: Annette Stokes of Kountze, Helen Reynolds of Nederland, and Thomas Pate and wife Andrea of Port Neches; her grandchildren: Debbie Turner and husband Chuck of Kountze, Brad Stokes of Lumberton, Mark Reynolds and wife Dana of Groves, Rachael Pate of Port Neches, Chris Pate of Port Neches, and Heather Pate of Vidor; great-grandchildren Courtney Whipps and husband Frank of Orange and Chloe, Aubrey, and Ethan Reynolds of Groves; and great-great grandchild Triniti Whipps of Orange. Edith was of the Catholic faith and always kept her rosary close by. She lived through the Depression, which made her passionate about appreciating food and never wasting it. She was a dedicated homemaker who loved her family and devoted herself to them. She was known and loved for her containers of Grandmas cookies. She was an expert seamstress who sewed for herself, her children, and her grandchildren. In her heyday, her yard was beautiful with daylilies and other flowers and was also a haven for birds and butterflies. She took pride in being a homemaker and kept her home to perfection. A favorite pastime was reading; however, Edith was always happiest when she could help her family. She took good care of them during her long years of widowhood. Services for Edith will be a visitation at Levingston Funeral Home in Groves on Tuesday, May 28, from 5 - 8 P.M. with a rosary at 6 P.M. Her funeral will be at St. Anthony Cathedral in Beaumont at 10 A.M. on May 29. Her burial will be at Oak Bluff Memorial Park in Port Neches. Special thanks to Kindred Hospice and their volunteers for their help and support and especially to Kendra, the nurse who took care of Edith. Also heartfelt thanks to her special sitter Desira, whose help made it possible to keep Edith in her home. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Meals on Wheels in Beaumont, Joyces Panty at First Baptist Church in Groves, or the charity of your choice.
