E.J. Gaspard was a seasoned store manager by the time I applied and was hired at Sears on Woodworth Avenue, now a part of Parker Lumber. I had 6 children in school and 1 in college needing to help pay tuitions. Sears had already put Gaspard in Manager positions in Port Arthur, Shreveport LA, and Albuquerque NM. I think he took opportunity to come back to Port Arthur nearer family. Family and people were important to him. Nothing got his "Cajun" up like employees standing around gossiping about their lovelives or bellyaching about trivial matters .. while a customer was ignored and treated with disinterest or as a botheration. And, Please! Sears phones were to be used only to aid a customer, not a social connection Every employee was there to serve the customer. One of his favoirte lines: "You gotta work with a riubber neck so you can see the customer." (Gone are the days.) Sears was Customer Service, Quality and Satisfaction.Guaranteed! E.J. did his human best to treat all of his employees justly. He took no sloth or ill manners toward customers or other employees. This created a good working atmosphere and if you got hired on at Sears and were a good worker your next resume for work or college gave you great advantage. I fondly remember my fellow employees and management team at Sears. We became family because most people respond to good leadership and good co-workers. E. J. Gaspard lived as a good man who practiced his Faith, loved family, performed his job well. He is a tribute to those who raised him and supported him, an admirable man in today's world. I'm happy to have known him and worked under him, and appreciate many good Sears people in my life. E.J. Gaspard had many of his old Sears family waiting for him in. Heaven. May his wife and family here be comforted and enriched by their treasured memories. Lois Badeaux

A very fine gentleman has passed away. He was a former boss of mine at Sears in Port Arthur. He was the "Epitome" of Customer Service, always teaching the theory that the Customer came first. Not emphasized as much these days. My heart goes out to the family as he dearly loved them. He's in the arms of the angels now. R.I.P Anita Mayer
