Edward "Ed" Joseph Ortiz

1970 ∼ 2021

Edward “Ed” Joseph Ortiz, 51, of Vidor passed away Saturday, June 5, 2021. Ed was born on February 24, 1970, in Topeka, Kansas to Julio Ortiz.

Ed was part Native American and held on to his heritage beliefs throughout his journey in life. He was a beloved father and a brother to many. Ed was patriotic at heart and a survivalist. Ed is preceded in death by his father.

Those left behind to cherish Ed’s memory are his children, Marion Vanderblomen, Ravon Ortiz, Hunter Ortiz and her fiancé, Noah Cash; and Christianna Holley; fiancé, Darla Holley; grandchildren, Katalina Ortiz, Sydnee Myers, Jesse Gutierrez, Jr., Maricella Gutierrez Keira McWillaims; and a host of friends.

A gathering of family and friends will be held Saturday, June 26, 2021, from 12:00 p.m. until 1:00 p.m., with the celebration of Ed’s life to begin at 1:00 p.m., at Melancon’s Funeral Home in Nederland. I am Ed's Aunt Becky, I'm married to his uncle Ed. We raised Joe for a 4 years during his teens. Unfortunately we have not heard from him since he left us. I remember telling Joe, to listen to the lyrics of Lyndard Sknards "Simple Man". And strive to be a simple man, the kind u love and understand. We loved him as did his sister and brother. I will always remember u Joe. Rest peacefully son.

I knew Ed as a customer, where I work, for several years. From the first time he came in the store, it’s like we knew each other already. He was open and truly had that witty, quick humor. Kept me laughing. We talked on his trips to the store. About his love of his kids, his bike, his bike club, the club guys, his bike vest, (he loved that) his political views, his guns, (and of course, his silver, why he came in the store) him being a recovering alcoholic for many years, many, many things & his undying love for his girlfriend. He talked many times about their situation, he said they had it going on and they were perfect. Then he’d have that great smile that lit up the room. I seen him that Thursday, prior to him going home to Jesus, the last thing I remember talking about was his job, his lovely girlfriend, I was so proud for him, and told him, his words were “It’s good to be me”. I cared about him & his life. I will miss him pulling up on his bike & seeing that smiling face with whatever witty quip he’d say walking in the door. I will forever remember him with a smile in my heart. God Bless his sweet, good soul. God be with his children, girlfriend and all that loved him. My Prayers are with you. Rest In Peace my friend…
