Another true matriarch has left the Hockersmith family. I feel blessed from as long as I can remember til now (60 years), of wonderful memories under the Nederland trees of the Hockersmith home of her parents and mine having fellowship and laughter together. Playing with David, teasing with Rufus, feeling her gentle care if she was there. Our family had one important common bond... we shared family. Tommy became ours and my sister Gloria became theirs. Sharing their children, etc... Joys and sorrows were interwoven, but faith never shaken. Eileen was still a woman of grace when I saw her at Gloria’s funeral. She had a love of her family, so strong.. it brought as many back as possible to tell her goodbye before she left. That speaks volumes. My heart-felt sympathies go your way as she kept her family intact and close to her heart. She left a hole... but she left the greatest inheritance on earth. Now my sis and her are where they have lived their life to be... They were sisters on earth and now sisters all through eternity. It’s hard to lose a sister, but bearable because we really know WHERE the are! My love. Cathy Carlile Turner and Charles.

When I first moved back to KY in 1979, I met Eileen. She helped me fix up a little apartment into a homey one. She fixed us some nachos to eat after working for several hours. I could only touch them to my lips before the burning started... she was used to Louisiana cooking and could eat them hot! She became a lifelong friend and someone I looked up to... I will miss her very much.

Dearest Dan and family, I’m so sorry for your loss. I did not have the pleasure of ever meeting your dear sister, Eileen; in fact, I thought there were only boys in your family. I greatly admired your mother and father and always though you were a wonderful Christian youth and classmate. Please keep your precious memories of your sister and other loved ones who have passed on close to your heart and may other family members do the same. Sincerely, Dianne Thompson Hollier Sr. ‘60 PNG classmate
