Eleanor Wingo Warden May 24, 1923 November 21, 2010 Eleanor was born in Lockney, TX in the Texas panhandle to W. H. and Emilie Thomas Wingo in 1923. After schooling in Lockney she attended the University of Texas and was graduated with a degree in English in 1943, later obtaining her Masters Degree in 1946. She began her teaching career in LaPorte, later teaching at Ball High School in Galveston, before coming to Port Arthur in 1949 to teach at Thomas Jefferson High School, where she was the senior class sponsor for the class of 1950. In February 1951, she married John Warden, and in 1954 she retired from teaching after their daughter Alice, was born. She was an avid reader and lifelong student who also enjoyed cooking, traveling, and the arts. She was a longtime member of the Port Arthur Reading Club, the Service League, PEO, and member of the Presbyterian Church where she served a number of terms on the Board of Deacons. Eleanor enjoyed attending classes in her later years at Lamar University, studying English and Philosophy. She is survived by her husband of 60 years, John Warden; daughter, Alice Warden; sister, Elizabeth Banks of Duncan, Oklahoma; and numerous nieces and nephews. A Memorial Service in celebration of her life will be held on Tuesday, November 30, 2010 at 10:30 a.m. at the United Methodist Temple, 4101 Hwy 73, Port Arthur, TX with Reverend Jesse M. Brannen officiating. Arrangements are under the direction of Levingston Funeral Home in Groves.
