Elia Dugas, 89, of Port Neches, Texas, went to be with her Lord on Saturday, November 30, 2013 at her home. She was born on April 18, 1924 in Branch, Louisiana to the late Valerien and Alucia Comeaux Dupuis. She was a lifelong resident of Port Neches and retired from PNGISD as a custodian.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at St. Elizabeth Catholic Church in Port Neches on Wednesday, December 4, 2013 at 2:00 p.m., with Monsignor Bennie Patillo celebrant. Interment will follow at Memory Gardens of Jefferson County in Nederland. A gathering of the family and friends will be held on Tuesday, December 3, 2013 from 5:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. with a Rosary at 6:30 p.m. at Melancon’s Funeral Home in Nederland.
Elia is survived by her children, Woodrow “Woody” Dugas and wife, Debbie of Vidor; Bettylou Haynes and husband, Kenneth of Nederland; Dorothy Lynn of Nederland; sister, Bertha Meche of Port Neches; 8 grandchildren, 16 great-grandchildren, and 2 great-great-grandchildren. She is also survived by many nieces, nephews, cousins, and many close friends. She is preceded in death by her parents, husband, Freddie Dugas, brother, Gossen Dupuis, and sister, Zulia Broussard.
Elia was a loving, caring and giving person. She was always ready to lend a helping hand when needed. She was very devout in her Catholic faith, and she loved to work outside tending to her flowers. She will be truly missed by all.
