Elma "Jean" Wohner

1940 ∼ 2021

Elma “Jean” Wohner went to be with her Lord and Savior on Friday, July 16, 2021. She was born August 30, 1940, in Eunice, Louisiana to Allen and Elberta Ledoux. Most people only have one birthday. Jean was so special she found out later in life she had two birthdays and was actually born on September 6, 1940.

A faithful member of Faith Tabernacle since August 1972 she was very active in fundraising. She was known for her cajun dishes. Her love of cooking spilled over to her son who owns a local restaurant, Bobby’s Homestyle Cooking in Nederland, Texas. She was a seamstress all of her adult life and was a local business owner offering alteration services in the Nederland area. She taught this skill to two of her granddaughters. In all of her activities and hobbies she was doting and loving mother to her three children.

Those left to cherish her memory are her husband of 63 years Robert “Bob” Wohner of Nederland. Her daughter, Cindy Drawhorn and her husband, Paul of Groves, TX. Her two sons, James Wohner of Nederland, TX and Bobby Wohner and his wife, Terri of Groves, TX; Her 3 sisters, Geraldine Robin of Eunice, LA; Kathleen Bunnell of Tuscaloosa, AL; Becky Washburn of Brookeland, TX; one brother, Don Terry of Lafayette, LA; six grandchildren, Brittany Terrier of Nederland, TX; Lindie Looper and husband, John of Stuttgart, AR; Ryan Wohner and wife, Jessica of Mobile, AL; Bobby Joe Vera, Jr of Austin, TX; Ashely Britt and husband, Anthony of Lumberton, TX; and Lauren Modisette of West Monroe, LA; and 11 great grandchildren and a host of nieces and nephews.

Jean is preceded in death by her mother, Elberta Pugh; father, Allen Ledoux; stepmother, Bea Ledoux; and brother, James Lackey; brother-in-laws, Tommy Robin, Jim Bunnell and Ronnie Washburn.

The family would like to thank the staff at Gulf Health Care, Oak Grove Nursing Home, and Harbor Hospice for all of their care over the last two and half years.

So many memories flood my mind when I think of Jean and the family. One thing that stands out is the laughter we always shared when we were together. God in His love and mercy has taken this precious daughter home. For those remaining we do not sorrow as those with no hope. We KNOW we will see her again and it could so easily be soon. Love to all the family...........Dudley Henderson family

Within 11 years of going to the nursing homes, I’ve witnessed a lot of Elders passing whom touched my heart. It’s hard not to get attached to people that look forward of seeing and hearing you throughout the week. But this one hits different because the amount of time we would spend together. She got on me every time I showed up late. It didn’t matter if it was 5 minutes. Mama Jean would say “you knew you had to be here for 10:00am right?” I always replied yes Ma’am. She stated if you don’t show up on time, I’m not coming to Church. I would have to personally go to her room and apologize in order for her to come to service. She said what she meant and she meant what she said. Their so many memories that are going to keep me laughing :joy: and also may cause me too cry :sob:. One thing I know is that she made it because of her love for God & Jesus. She loved talking about the Holy Ghost! :joy: Well Mama Jean I will see you again…….in the morning!!!

Pete and I were only around her a couple of times. Each time she made us feel like family. Takes a very special person to have that kind of affect on people after only a couple of times. Would have loved to have known her better. Pete and Patty Gray

So very sorry to read about Jean. She helped babysit my kids several times back in 1977. I knew her family thru Trish. I can only assume her and Trish is chatting away now. Again sorry to the family Evelyn Hays
