Emma Jean Kitchens

1927 ∼ 2015

Emma Jean Pugh Kitchens 1927-2015 Emma Jean Pugh Kitchens was born in Mobile, Alabama on May 8, 1927 and passed away in Port Arthur, Texas on March 28, 2015, at the age of 87. She was one of four children born to Kirk and Lillie Pugh, and enjoyed her childhood with her sister and two younger brothers. After graduating from Murphy High School in 1944, Jean served as a nurse's aid at Mobile Infirmary and a stenographer with GM and O Railroad in Mobile during World War II . She then married her hero, Captain Edward E. Kitchens, after the war ended in 1947. During their marriage of 67 years, Mrs. Kitchens worked briefly as a secretary with Gulf Oil Co. after settling with her husband in Port Arthur. Her true calling and passion, however, was making a wonderful home for her family. Captain Kitchens and their four sons always felt loved and secure in a strong, spirit-filled home that Jean created for them. Always a "prayer warrior", Jean turned to her Heavenly Father to bring her husband, her sons, and herself through any challenges they faced. Mrs. Kitchens was preceded in death by her husband, her parents, and her sister Hazel Pugh Ratcliff. She is survived by her Sons Earl Kitchens, Jr. (wife Sandra), John Kitchens (wife Donna), Richard Kitchens, and Andrew "Andy" Kitchens (wife Tammy); Grandchildren Alicia Kitchens Eichhorn, Melissa Kitchens Driskill, Stephanie Kitchens Bailey, John Jr. "J.J." Kitchens, Nicole Kitchens, Kevin Kitchens, Patrick Kitchens, and Bryanna Castillo. Her Great-grandchildren are Robert Eichhorn, Jackson Driskill, Hudson Driskill, and Jace Bailey. Jean is also survived by brothers Kirk Pugh, Jimmy Pugh and their families. A visitation for family and friends will be Wednesday, April 1, 2015 from 11:00 a.m.-1:00 p.m. at Levingston Funeral Home in Groves, followed by a Graveside service at 2:00 p.m. at Oak Bluff Memorial Park in Port Neches with Chaplain John Brian.
