Enriqueta Fuentes Trejo de Avendaño was born on June 28, 1934, in Tasquillo, Hidalgo México. Her parents were Baldomero Fuentes Medina and Emerenciana Trejo Gonzalez. She worked for the municipality of Tasquillo as a scribe for municipal records then went to work for the agriculture department for the state of Hidalgo. On December 18th, 1955 she married her long life husband of 50 years Reverend Dr. Carlos D. Avendaño Castro. They had 5 children, Areli E. Avendaño of Laredo Texas, Enrique Avendaño and wife, Daneen Avendaño of Peoria, Arizona, Carlos E. Avendaño and wife, Smirna Avendaño of Port Arthur, Texas, Jorge Avendaño of El Paso, Texas, and Efrain Avendaño of Port Arthur, Texas; 3 grandchildren, Tiffany Marshall of Silver Spring, Maryland, Aaron Zuniga of Bridge, City Texas, and Victoria Avendaño of Port Arthur, Texas and 3 great-grandchildren Adelle A. Zuniga of Port Neches, Texas Neveah and Ayden Marshall of Silver Spring, Maryland. She was surpassed by her husband, Carlos and her son, Jorge, her brothers, Tomas and Cesar, and sisters, Elsa and Imelda.
Her husband became a Clergy member with the Episcopal Church of Mexico, and then transferred to the Lutheran Church of the Wisconsin Synod. In 1972 they immigrated to the United States, and continued their ministry with the Rio Grande Conference of the United Methodist Church. Their first assignment was in Artesia, New Mexico, from there on they served their remainder of their ministry in Texas serving in Del Rio, Alice, Lubbock, Laredo, El Paso, Kenedy, Mercedes, Abilene, Port Isabel, Falfurrias, and their final assignment was at Getsemaní, Iglesias Metodista Unida in Port Arthur, Texas.
Enriqueta Avendaño a loving wife, mother, grandmother, and friend. On June 18th 2015 her fight against cancer came to an end at MD Anderson Cancer Center in Houston, Texas. She died at the age of 80 due to renal failure and pneumonia. Funeral Services will be held at Melancon’s Funeral Home, located at 1605 Avenue H in Nederland, Texas. Visitation will be on Thursday, June 25th from 4:00PM to 7:00PM followed by the Services at 7:00 PM.
