Erik Brandon Perry

1983 ∼ 2021

Erik Brandon Perry, 38, of Nederland, Texas passed away Wednesday, August 18, 2021. Erik was born March 15, 1983 in Orange, Texas to Selene Perry and Shawn O’Dell.

Erik was a very hard worker, for the last year he has been maintaining state parks in the Houston area and really enjoyed making a difference in the beautification of the parks. He was gifted with a natural intelligence and many talents, one being an amazing artist. He also could work on just about anything and run any kind of equipment. Being a lifetime lover of nature and animals, in his spare time he enjoyed fishing with friends and listening to rap music. Erik did not have any children of his own but was the greatest “Uncle E” to his niece Aubrei and nephew Colton as well as an extended Uncle E to a host of family and friend’s children, they all adored him. His philosophy on life was that he never met people by chance, that there was always a reason and always a ‘lesson in the blessin’. He loved his family with everything he had… even though he had a shyness about him, he still loved being the center of attention to make people laugh. His silly, sweet and caring personality will resonate with family and friends for a lifetime and he will be missed tremendously by many.

He was preceded in death by his favorite fishing buddy, his PawPaw, Sam W. Perry; and Grandfathers, Joe O’Dell, Gene Cathey and William Payne.

Those left behind to cherish Erik’s memory are his mother and step-father, Selene and Darren Payne; father and step-mother, Shawn and Tina O’Dell; sister, Meagan Musick and husband, Josh; brother, Dustin O’Dell and wife Ashlee; nieces, Aubrei Kondos & Lila O’Dell; nephews, Colton Musick, Jaxon & Jorden O’Dell; grandparents, Jane and Floyd Hammock; Ladawn Cathey and Windell Griffin, Grandmother Anna Payne; aunts and uncles Teresa and John Sartor; Rebel and Dennis LeBlanc; Jan and Bill Payne: Sallie and Rick Workman, and a host of other aunts, uncles, cousins and friends.

Erik’s wishes were to be cremated. The family will have a private memorial at a later date.

Condolences

Where do I start? I met Erik and his family in the early 90s and we instantly became best friends. We were inseparable right off the bat. We did EVERYTHING together. Spent countless days, nights, and weekends with each other's family. His family is just an extension of my family. Selene was my second mom and maw maw Jane was my second maw maw. As we grew up together, we continued to do just about everything together, sure we got in a little mischievous trouble like most young boys did. I could write a book about everything we did. Lol. Erik was my oldest/longest friendship. Sure we went our own ways as we grew up like most do, we would always stay in touch. He was my best man in my wedding. Things never go as you plan them to, for yourself or those you love but I was always there when he needed me. When I got the phone call my heart instantly broke for his family and then all the memories came flooding in and I lost it. Although we haven't been close in the past several years, it's like it was just yesterday that we were riding around being goofy kids. I love you bro and will see you again when it's time. You will never be forgotten brother!

Believer in Christ, and I know he has read the Bible through at least twice. I know where you are Erik and that gives me peace.

Thinking of you Erik, I already miss your phone calls, texts, facebook notifications, and most of all your Facetimes (you're the only one I'd answer). I wish you were here.

Erik, was my friend and co-foreman out at Westco Grounds, where we worked together for the past year. Erik, taught me so much, like how to start a chainsaw and just always made me feel safe in some of the not so safe areas we worked in. We processed about life, our mothers, and what we wanted to accomplish in recovery with each other as we were running our crews and keeping parts of Houston well kept and beautiful. He had such a soft spot for the homeless people that we would encounter and would help them in anyway that he could, as well as the animals. He was a very special person with such a big heart. I used to bake for our crews and he was constantly sending me new recipes he wanted me to try and make for him. I do and will miss him terribly.

This boy….like my 3rd child in his school years. Pretty much went Everywhere we went. Astroworld, camping, the beach… was our go to and he and Josh Wester (my son) were inseparable! They grew up together at the lake. Always mischievous little boys! We were neighbors and you didn’t see one without the other. One of those, you didn’t knock, you just came on in….I haven’t seen him in a long time, but would ask about him periodically and Josh would tell me what he was up to. We all struggle now and then. Some more than others. I look at the pictures I’ve seen on FB and still see that little boy face, unchanged. Selene, thank you for sharing your baby boy with our family. We will always remember the kind hearted, mischievous, funny little guy we loved. We will see you again Erik! :two_hearts:

My brother was six years older than me, so I have always been fascinated with everything he was doing. When we were younger he was an incredible skater, he rode bikes, he was fearless. Often times I was definitely in his way as a younger sibling usually is but, it is only because I looked up to him. When he was about 14 he started making art, either drawings or clay pottery and everything he did was stunning. My mom would have it displayed all over the house and I would just sit and stare at it (or play with it) for hours. I was a very proud sister. We didn't have a lot of bonding time through our teenage years but we grew closer as adults. Even at my brother's very low times he was loved so much by his family and that never changed. Because although it he was hard to love at times it didn't trump his good. In recent years we had some really great moments with him and he was doing so great, I was very proud of him. He was a great man, a strong man, a loving Brother, Uncle, Son, and Grandson and that will never be forgotten. We will hold him in our hearts forever, and my thoughts of my brother will never change. Despite the hell he went through here he has won. Until we meet again, love your little sis.

I loved this young man with all of my heart and soul. He was such a kind and giving person and super sweet. He had his battles like so many of us do, but he had a heart of gold beneath. Gone to soon, but never forgotten. Rest easy my sweet boy, no more pain, no more tears, no more fear, until we meet again on those golden streets, all of my love to you:hearts::hearts::hearts:Aunt Teresa
