Ernest Elroy Edwards, Jr., 80, of Bridge City, Texas passed away Wednesday, April 4, 2012 at the Medical Center of Southeast Texas. Ernest was born March 18, 1932 in Arco, Georgia to Ernest Elroy Edwards, Sr. and Margaret Welch Edwards. He was a resident of Bridge City for 36 years and member of St. Paul's Methodist Church of Bridge City. He was a retired car salesman from Coleman-Bernard with 35 years of service and also worked for Energy Country for 5 years. He served in the U.S. Marine Corp during the Korean Conflict. Survivors include his wife, Jeannette Edwards of Bridge City; daughters, Katherine Newsom of Nederland, and Brenda Swan of Bridge City; son, Ernest Elroy Edwards, III and wife, Brenda Ann of Bridge City; sister, Diana Perkins of Austin; four grandchildren, Brooke Martin and husband Jake, Cody Edwards, Cass Newsom and wife Kylee, and Alex Newsom; two great-grandchildren, Mason Martin and Natalie Martin. A graveside services will be at 2:00 p.m., Saturday, April 14, 2012 at Greenlawn Memorial Park in Groves with Reverend Brad Morgan officiating under the direction of Levingston Funeral Home in Groves.

I remember how important family was to Uncle Elroy. They were why he worked so hard, for so long to take care of them. But he knew the importance of a good time as well. Heaven has a new "character" and I only hope I will get to meet with him again. God bless you all.

Mrs. Edwards, Ernie, Kathy, and Brenda,my thoughts, prayers and love are with you. Mr. Edwards played a large part in my teen years and I will always remember him with fondness and a smile. I will love you always. -- Sheri
