Ernestine Calhoun Applegate Ernestine Calhoun Applegate, 92, of Port Arthur passed away on Sunday, July 14, 2013. She was born on October 27, 1920 in Port Arthur, Texas to Ernest Henry and Estelle Calhoun. Ernestine was a lifelong resident of this area and a member of The United Methodist Temple. She graduated from Thomas Jefferson High School and Port Arthur Business College. Ernestine worked at Gulf Port Shipbuilding and then went to work at First National Bank of Port Arthur where she retired as Assistant Vice President after 41 years. Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m., Wednesday, July 17, 2013 at Levingston Funeral Home in Groves with Reverend Russell Hall of The United Methodist Temple officiating. Burial will follow in Memory Gardens Cemetery. A visitation for family and friends will be Wednesday morning from 10:00 a.m. until service time at the funeral home. Ernestine is preceded in death by her husband, Lawrence T. Applegate, Jr., two sisters, three brothers, and one nephew. She is survived by her twin sister, Frances C. Cooper, three nieces, Marilyn Evans, Carolyn Black, and Arlene Massey, three great nieces, two great great nieces, five nephews and step-daughters, Priscilla LeBlanc and Jeanette Romero. In lieu of flowers, friends wishing to make memorial contributions may send them to a charity of your choice. The family would like to thank her caregivers, Kim and Janneth.
