Eugene "Gene" Devillier, 91, of Groves, Texas passed away Saturday, October 27, 2018 at his home. Gene was born August 18, 1927 in Opelousas, Louisiana to Morris Devillier and Aline Wyble Devillier. He was a lifelong area resident and attended St. Mary High School where he played football as #63. He was a retired Payroll Clerk at Jefferson Chemical with 30 years of service. He was a member of Immaculate Conception Catholic Church where he served as an Usher; and a member of the Weekly Coffee Club held on Wednesdays. Gene was known by two names "Pop Corn Man" by the Groves Senior Citizens and also "Yo-Yo Man" by the youth he gave yo-yos away to. Gene loved building birdhouses for everyone, and made birdhouses for Randy Owens with the band "Alabama" to auction off to benefit the youth in Alabama. Gene was also a US Marine Corp. Veteran serving his country during WWII. Visitation for family and friends will begin at 12:00 p.m. Tuesday, October 30, 2018 at Levingston Funeral Home in Groves followed by the funeral service at 1:00 p.m. with Reverend J.C. Coon officiating. Burial will follow at Oak Bluff Memorial Park. Gene was preceded in death by his first wife, Nonie Young Devillier. Surviving relatives include his wife, Nelda Dilocker Devillier of Groves, Texas; daughters, Laura Gene Macha and husband Dennis of Hemphill, Texas, Misti Ann Williams and husband Gary of Lumberton, Texas; sons, Ricky Lynn Devillier and wife Kathy of Vidor, Texas, Mark Edward Devillier and wife Jennifer of Lumberton, Texas; 5 grandchildren and 13 great grandchildren.
