Evelyn Joyce Gilbert Atkinson, 79, of Groves, Texas passed away Thursday, October 6, 2016. Evelyn was born October 31, 1936 in Port Arthur, Texas to Philip Gilbert and Edith Crawford Gilbert. She was a lifelong area resident and member of Bethel Temple. She was preceded in death by her husband, Jess Atkinson; grandson, Philip Childree; great-grandchildren, Sophie Sadler, Tad Lumpkin, and Baby Hall. Survivors include her daughters, Karon Jackson and her husband Keith of Groves, Jo Childree and her husband Steve of Port Neches, Dee Smiley and her husband Bubba of Groves; son Micah Atkinson and his wife Bambi of Hondo; sister, Janice Taylor and her husband Brooks of Durango, Co; brother, Bill Gilbert and his wife Pat of Weatherford; grandchildren, Ginger Lumpkin, Amber Hall, Brett Smiley, Westley Jackson, Stephanie Sadler, Chelci Atkinson, Meghan Atkinson, Jana Atkinson, Annabel Atkinson, and Harley Atkinson; and fourteen great-grandchildren. Funeral services will be at 2:00 p.m., Monday, October 10, 2016 at Levingston Funeral Home in Groves with Reverend Ralph Foster officiating. Burial will follow at Magnolia Cemetery in Beaumont. A visitation for family and friends will be held on Sunday evening from 5:00 p.m.-7:00 p.m. at the funeral home.
