Wayne Blankenship passed away Sunday, February 2, 2014 at the Medical Center of Southeast Texas, in Port Arthur, TX at the age of 86. He was born May 14, 1927 in West Monroe, Louisiana to the late Melvin and Patty Lou Jones Blankenship. He was a member of Calvary Baptist Church in Port Acres, a veteran of World War II and retired from Gulf Oil in 1985 as a supervisor.
Wayne is survived by his son, Mike Blankenship and his wife, Sandy of Fannett; his daughter, Kathy Havens and her husband, Robert of Fannett; brother, Bob Blankenship; three grandchildren, Stacy Long, Michael Blankenship, Jr., and James Swaim; and three great-grandchildren and four nieces. He was preceded in death by his wife of 61 years, Jean Blankenship and his parents.
Wayne loved going to church and working with his tools. He was known to fix anything and build everything. He was particularly proud of his grandchildren and great-grandchildren and their accomplishments.
A gathering of family and friends will be held at Melancon’s Funeral Home in Nederland, TX on Tuesday, February 4, 2014 from 5:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. Funeral services will be held at Melancon’s Funeral Home on Wednesday, February 5, 2014 at 1:00 p.m., with Bro. Jeff Bell officiating. Interment will follow at Oak Bluff Memorial Park in Port Neches.
Memorial contributions may be made to the American Cancer Society or M.D. Anderson Hospital.
