Frank Prowse, a devoted family man and beloved member of his community, has passed away at the age of 79. Frank was born on September 18, 1944, in Charleston, West Virginia, to his loving parents, Archibald Prowse and Eloise Musselman Prowse. He peacefully departed from this world on December 9, 2023, in Port Arthur, Texas.
Throughout his life, Frank cherished the time spent with his loving wife, Mitzie, their children Tim and Cheryl, and his adored grandchildren, Sammy May, Tabitha Holcomb and Miranda Prowse. His dedication to family was unwavering and brought him immense joy.
Frank served his country with honor as a member of the United States Marine Corps during the Vietnam era. With three overseas tours of duty under his belt, including operation "Power Pack" during the Dominican Republic crisis in 1965, he exemplified bravery and devotion to his fellow servicemen. Frank's commitment earned him the rank of Sergeant E5 within the United States Marine Corps.
In addition to his military service, Frank had a passionate interest in sports. An avid sports fan, he could often be found engrossed in any game where a ball was in motion. Whether it was baseball or football or any other sport that caught his attention, Frank derived great pleasure from watching athletes showcase their skills. Frank also was also known to enjoy a good game of poker with his family from time to time.
The impact that Frank had on those around him will forever be remembered. His warm smile and kind heart endeared him to all who had the privilege of knowing him. Frank's quick wit and sense of humor brought laughter to every gathering he attended.
To celebrate the life of Frank Prowse, two services will be held on December 12th at Melancon~Levingston Funeral Home located at 1605 Avenue H in Nederland, TX. The first event is a visitation scheduled from 5:00 PM to 6:00 PM followed by a Celebration of Life to begin at 6:00 PM with full Military Honors. These services will provide an opportunity for family, friends, and acquaintances to come together and honor the memory of a remarkable man.
Frank Prowse's legacy will be carried on by his surviving family members, including his devoted wife of 58 years, Mitzie Prowse. He is also survived by his sons, Tim Prowse and his wife, Lynette, and Stephen Prowse; his daughter, Cheryl Prowse May, and his sisters, Beverly Edens and Kay Taylor. Frank's grandchildren, Sammy May, Tabitha Holcomb and her husband, Travis, and Miranda Prowse will continue to cherish his memory.
Frank is preceded in death by his parents, Archibald Prowse and Eloise Musselman Prowse; and his two brothers, Jim and Gene Amory.
In this time of mourning, may we find solace in the memories we have shared with Frank. His kind spirit, unwavering love for family, and dedication to serving others will forever inspire us. As we bid farewell to an extraordinary individual who touched countless lives, let us carry forward the values that Frank embodied: Love of country, love for family, loyalty to community, and an unyielding zest for life.
