Gary W. Cook, 74, of Nederland, Texas passed peacefully at his home on February 18th, 2025. Although unexpected, his family takes comfort in knowing that he was welcomed into the open arms of Jesus, his Lord and Savior, as he left his earthly dwelling for his eternal heavenly home. Gary was born in Leesville, Louisiana on October 22,1950 to Victor Wayne Cook and Georgia Marie Stroud Cook. His family later relocated to Nederland, Texas where Gary graduated from Nederland High School in 1968. He went on to attend Lamar University where he earned his Bachelor of Science before going to work for DuPont Beaumont. Gary dedicated 33 years as a process operator at DuPont before retiring in 2006.
Gary is survived by his three daughters: Amy Blount and husband Brandon, Joy Bouget and husband James, Melanie Bell and husband Lucas, all of Nederland. Anyone who knew Gary would have immediately seen how proud he was of his 8 grandchildren: Mexia Cobb and husband Ryan, Cade Lange and wife Emily, Garrett Blount, Marshall Lange, Kingston Bouget, Marlie Bell, Griffin Bouget and Bradlie Bell. His smile was the brightest when he was speaking about his grandchildren and their accomplishments in their various sports, hobbies, jobs and milestones. As proud as he was of each of them, they are even more blessed to have had the coolest motorcycle driving PaPa ever. He is also survived by his brothers: Terry Cook and wife Linda, David Cook and wife Raylene, all of Nederland. Gary was a long-time member of Calvary Baptist Church in Nederland where he served faithfully and will be missed by his beloved brothers and sisters in Christ. He also leaves behind numerous nieces, nephews and a host of friends that he regarded as family.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Victor Wayne Cook and Georgia Marie Stroud Cook.
He was known by many names including Daddy, Uncle Gary, Bro, Cookie, Ol’ Gar, Butch, Cuz, but his favorite to answer to by far was PaPa. He was an amazing man who will be remembered for his sense of humor, willingness to help others and for the love he had for his family. Had he been able to say goodbye to each and every one of us, we know he would have left us with: “I love you and I’ll see you when I see you.”
A visitation will be held on Sunday, February 23, 2025, from 4-6 PM at Melancon Levingston funeral Home, 1605 Avenue H, Nederland, Texas. A funeral service will be held on Monday, February 24, 2025 at 10:00 AM at Calvary Baptist Church in Nederland, followed by interment at Oak Bluff Memorial Park.
