Gary Michael Shearer was born June 11, 1940 and died January 10, 2012. He was born in Port Arthur, Texas to Dalton Andrew Shearer and Edna Eleanor Bruton Shearer. Gary was an avid outdoorsman who enjoyed years of saltwater and freshwater fishing, shrimping and duck hunting with his Dad, brothers and friends. He loved working in his yard and it was impeccable every season of the year. He was also an avid gardener, providing family and friends with plenty of cucumbers and tomatoes in the summer. He was employed by the City of Port Neches as the City Building Inspector for 33 years and served on the City Council for 18 years. He enjoyed his days spending time with his dog, Lady. Funeral services will be held Friday, January 13, 2012 at 10:00 a.m. at Levingston Funeral Home in Port Neches with Rev. Russell Hall officiating. Burial will follow at Oak Bluff Memorial Park. Visitation for family and friends will be from 4:00 to 7:00 p.m. Thursday, January 12, 2012 at the funeral home. Gary was preceded in death by his wife, Eugenia Shearer, sister, Elanor Ann Shearer, brothers, Ronald James Shearer and Robert Dale Shearer. Surviving relatives include his niece, Ann Fletcher and husband Todd and their sons Jamey and Bryan of Port Neches, Texas; niece, Jodi Simon and husband Mike and their daughter Peyton and son Camden of Port Neches, Texas; sister-in-law, Phyllis Shearer of Port Neches, Texas; niece, Laurie Gagnet and husband Ronnie and their children Brandi, Danielle and Eric of Baton Rouge, Louisiana; nephew, Jimmy Shearer and wife Katie and their children Jack, Griffin and Morgan of LaGrange, Texas. He is also survived by special friends, Matt Vincent, Johnny Laughlin, Grover and Lena Polley. Memorial contributions may be made to the Humane Society of Southeast Texas.
