Gary Paul Whelply, 64, of Port Neches, Texas passed away Sunday, February 14, 2021 at Baptist Hospital in Beaumont, Texas.

Gary was born September 11, 1956 in Port Arthur, Texas to Robert Whelply and Katheryn Benningfield Whelply.

He graduated from Thomas Jefferson High School and was a member of the Boy Scouts of America where he earned the title of Eagle Scout. Gary was a United States Air Force Veteran serving several years in South Korea and Japan as the rank of Sergeant.

He retired from the Lower Neches Valley Authority with over 20 years of service. Gary's hobbies were fishing and duck hunting in his earlier years.

Visitation for family and friends will begin at 1:00 p.m. Tuesday, February 23, 2021 at Levingston Funeral Home in Port Neches followed by the funeral service at 2:00 p.m. with Reverend Leroy Foster officiating. Burial will follow at Greenlawn Memorial Park.

Surviving relatives include his wife of 38 years, Kyong Cha Whelply of Port Neches, Texas; twin brothers, Donald Whelply and wife Carol of Nederland, Texas and Ronald Whelply and wife Kiersten of Bossier City, Louisiana; niece, Megan Lesikar and husband Michael of Bossier City, Louisiana; nephew, Jordan Whelply of Nederland, Texas; grand-niece, Shiloh Lesikar of Bossier City, Louisiana.

We lab folks are all creatures of habit. He would cautiously ask me in the morning, "how we doin'?", tease me in the afternoon "hey-you're alright," and always say "appreciate ya" before we headed home.
