Gene Sponsler, 82, of Nederland, Texas passed away on May 11, 2014 at the Gulf Health Care Center. He was born in Masontown, West Virginia on April 26, 1932 to the late Samuel Slader Sponsler and Peggy Waterson Sponsler. He was a retired maintenance supervisor for Ameripol Synpol Corp. and served his country proudly in the U. S. Navy during the Korean Conflict.
Funeral services will be held at Melancon’s Funeral Home in Nederland on Friday, May 16, 2014 at 2:00 p.m. with Rev. Clay Faulk officiating. Interment will follow at Oak Bluff Memorial Park in Port Neches. A gathering of family and friends will be held prior to the service from 12:00 noon to 2:00 p.m.
Gene is preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Mary Elizabeth Sponsler; his sister, Kathleen Findley; and his daughter, Cathy Orlando. He is survived by his son, Clifford Wayne Sponsler and wife, Denise of Nederland; brother, Harry Sponsler of Elkhart; sisters, Nancy Sims of Lumberton, Shirley Johnson of Houston, and Ann Guillory of Rye; grandchildren, Randal Sponsler, Shelly Sponsler, Jason Dillon, Steven Peas, Reesa Peas, and Mathew Orlando; and many nieces, nephews, cousins, and close friends.
