Geneva Jones went to be with the Lord on April 29, 2021.
Geneva was born in Lake Arthur, Louisiana on April 6, 1932 to Wallace Bertrand and Nellie Castille Bertrand.
When she was very young her family moved to Beaumont and then later to Port Neches. She was the oldest of 4 and had to help with the raising of her siblings. She graduated from Port Neches High School (now PNG).
Geneva was a beauty and at the age of 17 was selected as Miss Mid-County and later was a Duchess in the Woodville Dogwood Festival.
After high school she married Elton Jones. They had two children Brad and Valerie.
They joined First Baptist Church Port Neches when it was originally located on Avenue B and Dearing Street. She taught Sunday school for many years. They were members there for many decades before moving their membership to First Baptist Church Groves.
She was a stay-at-home mom as most wives were back in the day. She was a great cook and baker. In the Fall, when Jonathan and Winesap apples were available, she would make Apple Dumplings-they were delicious.
A graveside service will be held Monday, May 3, 2021 at 2:00 p.m. at Oak Bluff Memorial Park with Reverend Lynn Sasser officiating under the direction of Levingston Funeral Home Port Neches.
She was preceded in death by her parents, and her husband of 70 years, Elton Jones.
She is survived by one son, Brad Elton Jones and wife Gail of Groves, Texas; one daughter, Valerie Lynn Salabor and husband Ed of Longview, Texas; three granddaughters, Katie Landry and husband James of Bridge City, Texas, Sarah Graham and husband Travis of Henderson, Texas, and Amanda Keith and husband Kyle of Houston, Texas; two great grandsons, Cole Landry and Kline Keith; and one great granddaughter, Katherine Keith.
She is also survived by her brother, Bobby Bertrand and wife Darlene of Spring, Texas; sisters, Peggy LeBoeuf of Port Neches, Texas and Wendy Beckcom and husband Danny of Port Neches, Texas; along with many nephews and nieces.
A special thanks to the nurses at Dubuis Hospital and to April Adaway for her loving care.
Memorial contributions may be made to First Baptist Church Groves, 4000 Grant Avenue, Groves, Texas 77619.
