Genevieve "Ginger" A. Colletti, 90, of Port Arthur passed away Friday, April 17, 2015 at Oak Grove Nursing Home in Groves, Texas. She was born on October 10, 1924 in O'Donnell, Texas to Loretta and Dave Fergason. Ginger graduated from Denver City High School and was valedictorian of her class. She attended Draughon's Business College in Lubbock and then St. Paul Hospital in Dallas where she earned her degree as a Registered Nurse. After graduation she served as a Cadet in the United States Navy. She worked in industrial nursing and also private nursing in Dallas, Texas. Ginger married Dr. Ben M. Colletti, M.D. in 1950 and worked in his office. She was a member of St. Catherine's Catholic Church and was very active in the Altar Society. She was also a member of the Jefferson County Medical Association's Ladies Auxiliary and was one of the leaders that lobbied for the child safety seat laws and bicycle helmet laws in Texas when her husband was a Delegate of the Texas Pediatric Association; Daughters of the American Revolution (DAR) where she researched genealogy back to the Mayflower and her Scottish and Irish ancestors. In 1966 she was honored by the Quota Club as Woman of the Year. She continued her education with a major in oil and gas and received her paralegal degree from Lamar University in 1980. Ginger loved spending time with her family and enjoyed cooking large family meals. She was always a huge supporter of her children's varied activities and pursuits. She had many hobbies including gardening and genealogy research. She supported PBS radio KTRH in Houston and appreciated their politics and independent thinking. Funeral services will be held at 2:00 p.m., Monday, April 20, 2015 at Levingston Funeral Home in Groves with Reverend Stephen McCrate officiating. Burial will follow in Greenlawn Memorial Park. A visitation for family and friends will be Sunday evening from 5:00 to 8:00 p.m. with a rosary service to begin at 6:00 p.m. Ginger is preceded in death by her husband, Dr. Ben Colletti, two sons, Ben Anthony and Mark Colletti and her brother, Leo Fergason. She is survived by her daughter, Nancy Bradford and husband, John Michael of Beaumont, TX, three sons, Sam Colletti and wife, Brenda of Leander, TX, Matthew Colletti and wife, Brenda of San Marcos, TX, and Greg Colletti of Dallas, TX, sister, Margaret Mauk of Wylie, TX, ten grandchildren and twelve great grandchildren. Aunt GingerBeautiful, elegant, brilliant, generous, great chef, but most of all she had a deep love of her family & she took great care of them. We will miss her so much.
