I had the pleasure of working with George on a few projects over the years as an employee of the City of Beaumont Fire Department. Always a jovial fellow, George seemed really proud of the work he did for the City and the assistance he provided to the citizens. Although it had been a few years since we last spoke, I ran into him again in the Summer of 2014, while taking an environmental law class at Lamar. Our class had taken a field trip to the Water Reclamation facility where we viewed a presentation on wastewater treatment in the City and then took a tour of Cattail Marsh. George was very proud of this unique facility that he managed, which creates an amazing interface between the wastewater treatment facility and the surrounding bayous. During the tour of Cattail Marsh, George and I had the opportunity to visit about our work for the City and it was very obvious that he was proud of the role he played in the City operations. He had a passion for the outdoors and Cattail Marsh allowed him to enjoy the beauty of the outdoors every day that he came to work. Our community lost a great man with the passing of George Newsome.

I am so sorry for the Newsome family and all the many friends who will miss George dearly. In the 20 years that I've known him, he was always the kindest man I've known. He never had a bad word for or about anyone. He always assured everyone that "it'll be alright", and I know that he is still spreading his positive message even today. My heart goes out to Diane and family. He will be missed, but never forgotten.

I am fortunate to have worked with George for more than 10 years. We quickly became friends, and he soon became a mentor to me. George was always quick with a smile and a big laugh. He had a huge love for his wife and children, he lit up every time they came out to the waste-water treatment plant. George made our Water Reclamation facility a place where we all looked forward to coming to work. He had an impact on the culture of where ever he was, and it was always a positive one. George would annually take all of the Class A operators to the Texas Water Utility Association Annual School, to attend meetings and the "A" club lunch, he always made the trip fun and lively. Beaumont Water Reclamation is a better place to work, and the world is a better place to live, because God allowed George M. Newsome 51 years to touch us all. I will see you again, my friend.

I only had the pleasure of meeting George through the TWUA SER School. He was always there taking care of something and making life easier for all who attended the school. I will always remember his compassion, his hard work and gravel-like laugh. He came to my aid more than once with an offer to help. I will miss him terribly.

George was the person you always counted on - he was first to lend a helping hand and never asked for anything. He was everyone's friend and was loved dearly. He always seemed to know a person from the start - he knew what an animal lover I am and always told me the stories of saving animals - that was George - kind to all living creatures.
