George Carlyle Rodgers

1931 ∼ 2011

George Carlyle Rodgers was born November 16, 1931, in Oil City, Pennsylvania and went to be with the Lord on February 23, 2011. He was preceded in death by his wife, Maxine; brother, Jim Rodgers; and his parents, Richard and Winifried Rodgers. George moved to Port Arthur when he was sixteen years old. He graduated from Thomas Jefferson High School, where he and Maxine met. They were married on June 2, 1951. He retired after 38 years from Texaco/Star Enterprise in 1990 where he worked as a Pipefitter and Maintenance & Shift Supervisor for the Utilities Division. George was a member of the Groves Masonic Lodge #1315. George was a great husband, dad, grandfather and great-grandfather. He was always active in his children's activities at school and play, helping with school projects, coaching baseball and softball, being "the band's" number 1 fan, reading to his grandchildren and great-grandson. He loved cooking for his family and friends and playing cards and listening to the current hits on the radio and TV. He especially enjoyed watching the Dallas Cowboys on TV-a die hard fan! He is survived by his daughter, Debbie Benoit and husband, Lowell of Port Neches; his son, Mike Rodgers and wife, Dorothy of Nederland; his daughter, Terri Thomas and husband, Wayland of Nederland; sister, Delores Johnson and husband, Shelby of Tyler; grandchildren, Andy Rodgers and his wife, Sarah, Sherry Willey, Kenneth Thomas and Brittney Thomas; and great-grandson, Kane Rodgers. He will be missed dearly by his family and friends, but we know he is happy in a wonderful, pain-free place with those who have gone before him. Funeral services will be at 2:00p.m., Saturday, February 26, 2011 at Levingston Funeral Home in Groves with Dr. Phil Sigman officiating. Burial will follow at Greenlawn Memorial Park. A visitation for family and friends will be held Friday evening from 5:00p.m.-8:00p.m. at the funeral home. Pallbearers will be Lowell Benoit, Andy Rodgers, Earl East, Kenneth Thomas, Brent Rozell, Wayland Thomas, and Honorary Pallbearer, Kane Rodgers.
