On June 12, 2010 Georgiana Volz of Taylor Landing went home to be with her Lord and Savior after a hardfought battle with cancer. Born on February 12, 1958 in Nederland, to James and Helen Bass, Georgie lived most of her life in the Golden Triangle. She was a graduate of Nederland High School and held a B.S. degree in microbiology from Texas Tech University. She spent her professional career as a public servant in the health and environmental fields. She was with the State39s environmental agency, Texas Commission on Environmental Quality, for 21 years where she held the position of Regional Director from 2001 through her retirement in 2009. In recent years, she also dedicated her time and effort to the Julie Rogers quotGift of Lifequot program. With a smile as big as Texas and an irresistible personality, Georgie attracted friends and strangers alike with her genuine love and concern. She had a unique gift of making everyone feel accepted, and she was sure to make your problems paramount to hers. Fun doesn39t even begin to describe the vivacity she had for life. Among her favorite things were spending time with family and friends, shopping, traveling, spoiling her devoted pets, and studying the Bible.Georgie is survived by her husband Chip Volz daughter Carrie Burnett and husband Matt of Arlington parents James and Helen Bass of Nederland brothers Jim Bass and wife Sheila Raymond Bass and wife Carol Ross Bass and wife Wendy nieces and nephews and an innumerable number of loyal and devoted friends. A memorial service is scheduled for Tuesday, June 15th at 2:00 pm at First United Methodist Church in Nederland, Rev. Malcom Monroe officiating. Funeral Services are entrusted to Heritage Funeral Home, Johnny Huckaby funeral or. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that charitable donations be made to the Julie Rogers quotGift of Lifequot program 2390 Dowlen Rd, Beaumont, TX 77706 or First United Methodist Church in Nederland.

I just found out today that Georgie had passed away on June 12th from cancer. I grew up with Georgie from days when we played together as she lived across from my aunt Doris, took dance lessons together from Ms. Frances, through school together and my last time to see here was at the class reunion in 1996. I want to extend my prayers to all the family on the loss of such a beautiful person. Georgie was so full of life and a true gift from God to share with us all. I know you are at peace now Georgie and I will miss you greatly but I know I will see you again. James and Helen I extend my heart and prayers to you as well as Chip and Carrie. What a wonderful blessing you all had with Georgie.

With deepest sympathy to all of Georgies family and friends. I had the privilege of meeting Georgie through my sister, Carrie, in elementary school. Sometimes I felt like she was my sisters twin because they were always together. Georgie always had a smile on her face no matter what challenges she had to face in life and her big eyes of happiness. She loved and was loved by everyone. I know this was a very big loss for my sister as well as Georgies family.. My prayers go out to everyone Georgie knew. and remember she will never leave your side she will always be with you.. With Love, Merri Lynn

Dearest Carrie and Chip,We are so saddened that our beloved Georgie lost her very long and painful battle with ovarian and breast cancer. Georgie was one of the most courageous, selfless, beautiful inside and out, smart, adorable, kind, humorous and funloving individuals to grace our efforts. A source of inspiration, she truly captured our hearts with her everpresent SMILE, incredible spirit and will to survive. Georgie was PASSIONATE about the quotGift of Lifequot and determined to recover so that she could resume volunteering and assisting us in our mission. Now we must continue our efforts more than ever before to honor her legacy and memory, as well as those who have preceded her.WE LOVE YOU, OUR PRECIOUS ANGEL, GEORGIE. May you continue to bless us from heaven, where surely God was waiting for you with open arms. I will truly miss this wonderful lady. We went to Jr. High and High School together and she was the funniest person I had ever met. We lost touch until about 5 yrs ago when I raninto her at a Mexican restaurant in Bmt. We talked like we had so much to catch up on. Then we kept running into one another at Dillards in Nederland and we hugged and talked some more. She was so excited about her daughter getting married. I even met her future son in law shopping with her. I will truly miss this beautiful ray of sunshine. She had such a wonderful since of humor and Cancer would not get her down. I loved her like a sister and I will miss her dearly. She will forever and always be in my heart. I love you, Georgie.Sweet Dreams My Friend And May You Rest In Peace. Sheri McMillan Robbins

Georgie, I wish I could have known you in your adult life but it seems you were just the same fun, happy, and talented girl I grew to love throughout our early teenage years. Yes, we had some wonderful times together in band playing flute, and growing up in a wonderful time and place. Time and distance moved us apart. God bless your family and sincere condolences to Chip and Carrie as you begin to heal and appreciate the memories of this dear, lovely lady.

Georgie, all big eyes and smile that totally lit up any room. She did make one talking with her think that she had no problems and always elicited information about us. I watched her grow from a little girl in a dancing class in which I helped, into a junior high student with a body waiting for to catch up to those gorgeous eyes and magnificent smile. What a beautiful, intelligent, and captivating person she turned into. Inspirational and specialthe heavens are glowing with her vivacity, and her presence will be missed so much by everyone who she touched. Chip and Carrie, I met Georgie in person once, but felt I had known her for years. Being sisters in Christ, we related very easily. I also felt very connected to her through Donna who continually kept me posted on her status. Ive prayed for her and I have hurt with her, although she was not aware. Chip and Carrie, I hurt for you, but rejoice in knowing she is with our Lord ... I pray that you will be able to trust in the Lord with all your heart and lean not on your own understanding, in all your ways acknowledge Him, and He will your paths. My heart felt condolences go out to the Bass family and everyone whose life she touched at this time of great sadness. I work with Helen and love her dearly. She is always full of sunshine and makes me laugh whenever I see her. For such a good and beautiful woman to be taken so young doesnt make sense to any of us. We just have to trust in the Lords plan for all of us. Someday we will understand why things happen as they do. I hope knowing that she is safe in Gods hands now helps take just a bit of the pain away. I will pray for the repose of her soul and,of course, everyone left grieving her. Please know that God is with you now and if you turn to Him, He will ease your sorrow. God bless you all.

To all of the Bass family, my heart is breaking for you. Georgie was a wonderful person and friend. You could not help but love her. After highschool we kind of drifted apart and moved on with our respective lives, but i still remember her as she was. Always joyful, upbeat and caring. Take solace in the fact that she is no longer hurting and dont try to understand Gods plan. He needed her more than we did. She was an angel on earth, and now she is truly an angel with the Lord.
