He gave me a horse, in 1983 or so, just because. It was a runt and wasn't going to be a runner. I would talk to him about horses at the hospital, so he gave it to me. WOW!

I've known Melinda his daughter for 19 yrs an met her dad (Gerald) a couple yrs after I met her. Melinda an I were living next to each other and always hanging out when one day her dad came to visit her and I had the pleasure of meeting him. I was into working out and her dad had found out about it and was giving me advice on how to improve my workouts and how to eat healthy.....he didn't have too but that's the kind of man he was, just always trying to help and improve someone's life. He was a very charismatic man with a great personality and when he talked people listened. He will be greatly missed and he's resting peacefully with the angels now. God bless his family.

Gerald and I were great friends during the 70's and early 80's. We deer and duck hunted together, worked out together and chased the ladies together. Gerald was always so upbeat, never saw any indication that life was wearing on him like it had on me. I spoke with him several days before the tragic surgery. He, like always, was so upbeat. I told him that I would be thinking about him and saying some prayers for him through his surgery and his recovery. I was so shocked to find out that it all went bad. I started to head up to Dallas just to be with him for a little while, when I learned that he had passed away. I'm still in shock. Gerald, I want you to know that I will be looking for you if I make the grade when my time is up. God bless and keep you. Mike Defee
