Gerald McElroy, 58, of Groves, Texas passed away April 20, 2014 at Christus Dubuis in Beaumont, Texas. He was born in Port Arthur, Texas on September 28, 1955 to the late Glen McElroy and Leatrice “Peachy” Melancon McElroy. Gerald was retired from Iron Workers Local #187 and served his country in the U. S. Navy.
Funeral services will be held at 10:00 a.m. Wednesday, April 23, 2014 at Melancon’s Funeral Home in Nederland with Msgr. Dan Malain officiating. Entombment will follow at Greenlawn Memorial Park in Groves. A gathering of Gerald’s family and friends will be from 5:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. Tuesday, April 22, 2014 at the funeral home.
Gerald is survived by his 3 daughters, Elizabeth Venable and husband, Brent of Groves, Sarah McElroy of Bridge City, and Amanda Billings of Groves; his son, Michael McElroy of Orangefield; sister, Cheryl Sheppard and husband, John of Groves; his 2 brothers, Ricky McElroy and Keith McElroy, both of Groves; and his 5 grandchildren, Chance Venable, Megan Venable, Riley Billings, Presley Lackey, and Emery Bourgeois. He is preceded in death by his parents, Glen McElroy and Leatrice “Peachy” Melancon McElroy; brother, Curtis McElroy; and granddaughter, Peyton Lackey.
