Gertrude “MeMe” Choate, 89, of Groves, Texas passed away January 3, 2021 at her Son’s home in Magnolia. MeMe was born in Port Arthur, Texas on February 18, 1931 to the late Whitney “Shorty” Viator and Ezar Romero Viator.
Mrs. Choate retired from the Port Arthur Independent School District where she worked in the cafeteria. She was also a poll worker at elections for many years.
Those left to cherish Meme’s memory are her children, Vicky Mannino of Groves, and Rickie Choate and wife Patty of Magnolia; Grandchildren, Ryan Choate and wife, Ryan of Magnolia, and Ashely Choate of Magnolia; 3 great grandchildren, Reece Choate, Ross Choate, and Zane Gilliam all of Magnolia, Texas. She is preceded in death by her parents and her husband of 54 years, Oris John Choate.
A gathering of family and friends will be held Friday, January 8, 2021 at Melancon’s Funeral Home from 6:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. with a rosary being held at 6:00 p.m. A mass of Christian Burial will be held Saturday, January 9, 2021 at 10:00 a.m. at Immaculate Conception / St. Peter Catholic Church – 4100 Lincoln, Groves, Texas 77619 - with Rev. Msgr. Kenneth Greig celebrant. Interment will follow at Greenlawn Memorial Park in Groves, Texas.
