Gertrude Louise Griffiths Reeves was a loving and supporting Sister. She took care of me as a baby and I loved her dearly, lost when she married Raymond, her amazing husband, now deceased. Gertrude and Raymond took me to get ice cream and riding while they courted. She carried me everywhere on her hip and bathed and put me to bed every night. Her love for me prompted the child in me to ask her to wait for my adulthood to marry her. My Sister raised four boys and one girl, all grew up to marry and become successful adults. Gertrude and Raymond were very supportive of their children, grandchildren, and great grandchildren. Christmas at the Reeves House was a special annual event. My relationship with my Sister was one unique and affectionate, me seeking her counsel and help solving everyday and serious personal problems. Her solutions were always straightforward and practical, from advice on aging frozen food, my divorce, guidance in raising my children. She was always there for me. We gained an even closer attachment during a trying chapter in our family's recent past, a family crisis that strained relationships with other family members. We worked together in perfect harmony to accomplish our success despite interfamilial strife. Our strong mutual love and respect prevailed and voided each and every potential disagreement between us during this period. It only drew us ever closer. I can hear and feel the calmness in her voice transforming my anxiety and unrest into peace and lucid thinking with simple, reassuring phrases making sense out of chaos. Our birthdays are both in January and I pray I never missed one. I miss our phone calls even now but know that she suffered greatly with illness and deserved a better place. I loved her dearly, she will be sorely missed.

I will always cherish the summers I got to spend with her and pawpaw. Always cooked such good meals. Such a sweet and wonderful woman.

Gertrude was a very special lady! Very pleasant personality. The times I had to talk to her she was able to fill the blanks about our family history. I considered her a hard worker and dedicated to her family. Our thoughts and prayers go out to the family. Grace & Peace Sandy, Linda, Jeannie, Stephanie, Preston, Speencer

Aunt Gert was a beautiful lady who loved her family. My mom always admired her, and when she needed advice, she would contact Gert. God Bless and keep Gert and her family in His hands always

I will never forget her whistling, her shrimp creole, or the Christmases we shared with her and paw paw. You rarely saw her without a smile.

Mawmaw and I shared so many memories to going to the beauty shop, having Christmas with all the family, back to school shopping and myself learning how to cook her famous spaghetti. I will cherish each memory I have made with her. One day we'll meet again.

She was a big part of my life from a young age. I loved being able to visit her when I was in Kirbyville. She will be greatly missed. No more walking across the bridge to visit her. Rest In Peace, dear Gert. See you on the other side. I love you. Donna
