Gilroy Joseph Broussard (Bruce) of Port Neches went to be with his Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ, on October 24, 2016. Born to Sophie and Mayo Broussard in 1927 in Kaplan, Louisiana, he was the first of six children. Gilroy grew up in Kaplan and upon graduation from high school he moved to Port Neches and accepted a position with B.F. Goodrich Rubber Plant where he remained a loyal employee for 45 years. For over 25 years, he served on the supervisory committee of Du Good Credit Union. In 1952 Gilroy met the love of his life, Lorene Hubbard Downs, and they recently celebrated their 63rd wedding anniversary on August 29th. He and Lorene were a beloved couple, and their marriage was an inspiration to all who knew them. They shared many loving and fun-filled years traveling, gardening, playing bridge with friends, and attending the Port Neches-Groves football games where they maintained season tickets for 56 years. Gilroy was a gentle man, kind and generous to everyone. He was a loving husband, father, grandfather, brother, uncle, and friend to many. We will miss his quick smile, his love of family, his devout faith in God, his love of sports, and his incredible dirty rice and home grown tomatoes. He will remain in our hearts forever. Gilroy is survived by his wife, Lorene Broussard of Port Neches, his son Bill Downs and wife Jan of Horseshoe Bay, TX, grandson Gregory Downs and Tammy of Little Rock, Arkansas, and Darryl Downs of Dubai, UAE.
