Gladys Aline Carlquist, 90, of Port Arthur, Texas passed away Thursday, May 22, 2014 at Gulf Health Care. Gladys was born October 17, 1923 in Port Arthur, Texas to John and Estelle Stewts and was a lifelong Port Arthur resident. She was a member of the United Methodist Temple, Wesley Sunday School Class, and volunteer for Meals on Wheels. Gladys was preceded in death by her husband, Carl Carlquist, Jr.; four sisters, Corrine Carr, Estelle Guinn, Hilder Dupre, Evelyn Babin; three brothers, Ralph Stewts, Tom Stewts, and William "Buddy" Stewts. Survivors include her daughter, Barbara Bernard and husband Rick of Port Arthur, TX; two sons, Robert Carlquist and wife Fran of Georgetown, TX, Cliff Carlquist and wife Diana of Forest, TX; brother, Malcolm Stewts of Nederland, TX; sister-in-law, Mary Stewts of Bridge City, TX; four grandchildren, Chad Carlquist and wife Heather, Jennifer Shang and husband Stephen, Ryan Bernard and wife Lena, Casey Bernard; four great-grandchildren, Dylan and Ashley Carlquist, Ivy Bernard, Sedalia Shang; and numerous nieces and nephews. Funeral services will be at 2:00 p.m., Sunday, May 25, 2014 at Levingston Funeral Home in Groves with Reverend Randy Miller officiating. Burial will follow in Greenlawn Memorial Park. A visitation for family and friends will be held on Saturday evening from 5:00 p.m.-7:00 p.m. at the funeral home. A very special thank you to Gladys' special Christian friends, Roy Lipe and Betty Spurlock, and our deepest thanks and gratitude to the staff at Gulf Health CareMelinda, Michelle, Roshana, Shannon, Dee, Kecia, Chelbi, Skylar, Tisha, Charlie, Debbie, Craig, Bubba, Jessica, and Adrian. Gladys was the sweetest woman. I cleaned her home before she went into the nursing home. My daughter would clean there sometimes and just loved her too. I would visit her at the nursing home and she always so glad for the visit. We will miss her. Our thoughts and prayers are with her and the family.
