Gracy May Snell, 99 of Port Arthur passed away Wednesday, October 24, 2012 at her home. She was born November 27, 1912 in Vinton, Louisiana to William M. and Lucy Gillette Tasco. Gracy was preceded in death by her beloved husband, John E. Snell, constant companion of more than 70 years. Gracy and John were partners in the N.M. Barrier Insurance Agency and owned several commercial properties in Port Arthur. Gracy operated the insurance agency during World War II while her husband served in the Navy. During that period she also negotiated the purchase of land on which the Snell Shopping Center was later built. Gracy and John loved to travel and collect works of art. The donated antiques to furnish a room named after them in the Museum of the Gulf Coast. Gracy was preceded in death by her brother, William Jr., and sister, Carrie Lee, and is survived by niece, Carrie M. Bergeron of Houston and cousin, Leta Bristol of Washington State.A memorial service will be at 10:00 a.m., Wednesday, October 31, 2012 at the United Methodist Temple with Dr. Jesse Brannen officiating. Gracy was a faithful member of the United Methodist Temple, Port Arthur, for over 85 years. It is requested that memorials be sent to the United Methodist Temple, 4101 Hwy 73, Port Arthur, TX 77642.
