Greig Alan Dawkins, 56, of Nederland passed away on Monday, March 31, 2014 at his father’s home in Nederland. He was born on October 25, 1957 in Port Arthur to Jimmy Clive Dawkins and the late Mary Jane Aguillard Dawkins. He was a parts manager for Stewart & Stevenson for 37 years.

Funeral services will be held at Melancon’s Funeral Home on Friday, April 4, 2014 at 2:00 p.m. with Deacon Kirby Smith officiating. A gathering of family and friends will be held on Thursday, April 3, 2014 from 5:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. at the funeral home.

Greig is survived by his son, Grant Dawkins of Nederland; father, Jimmy Dawkins of Nederland; sisters, Jennifer Davis and her husband, Randy of Groves and Carol Neumann of Pearland; brother, Jeff Dawkins and his wife, Jenny of Houston; girlfriend, Melinda McBride Manigold; and several nieces and nephews. He is preceded in death by his mother, Mary Jane Dawkins.

Jeff, Jennifer, Carol & Mr. Dawkins, how heart-breaking it was for me to hear of Greig's passing. He was without question among the best kids to have on your team in our sandlot football, baseball and basketball games on Avenue N. I have nothing but fond memories of Greig and your family. I loved the way Greig always could make anyone laugh, no matter if you were in a bad mood, sad, angry he would get you laughing one way or another. I remember how he referred to me as cross-eyed Mary due too my eyes being crossed. Greig you were one of a kind and will truly be missed by so many . Love you always my friend!

Greig will always hold a special place in my heart as the father of my nephew, Grant. He treasured every moment they spent together. Whether it was out on the lake fishing, watching the Astros or Dallas Cowboys, Grant will always cherish those special memories the two have shared. My condolences to Greig's Family. I never met Greig in person however I worked with him and conversed with him for several years during his work time at Stewart & Stevenson. He always seemed like a straight forward guy and I admired that and his knowledge in the parts department at Stewart & Stevenson. He made it a point to let me know when he was leaving for retirement at S&S and he was so looking forward to his move.
