On September 12, 2011 Gunther Harry Brunow, Jr. passed peacefully into God's arms. He was born September 14, 1922 in Port Arthur, Texas to Gunther Harry and Johnnie Lake Brunow. He was the 3rd born of three children. He was a lifelong Port Arthur resident, a graduate of Thomas Jefferson, a U.S. Navy veteran and served in the U.S. Coast Guard. Gunther worked for Gulf Oil Refinery as an inspector until his retirement in 1984. He married our mother, Elizabeth Joffrion, his loving wife July 16, 1946. They were married for 64 years and raised two daughters, Victoria Elizabeth and Johnnie Arlene. He devoted his life to his family. He served as Commander of the V.F.W. and was a lifetime member of the American Legion. He toured the U.S. and abroad with his wife. Harry was preceded in death by Elizabeth his wife, his parents, and his sister Viletra Riley. Survivors include two daughters, Victoria Brunow of La Veta, CO and Johnnie Brunow of Denver, CO; one sister, Geraldine Dozier of Port Arthur, TX. A Mass of Christian Burial will be at 11:00 a.m., Saturday, September 17, 2011 at St. James Catholic Church with Reverend Mundadan officiating. Graveside Military Honors will follow at Greenlawn Memorial Park under the direction of Levingston Funeral Home in Groves, Texas. A visitation for family and friends will be held on Friday evening from 5:00 p.m.-7:00 p.m. with a Rosary Service at 6:00 p.m. at the funeral home.
