On September 1st, 2021, Guy Garland Barlow, Sr. was called home at the age of eighty-eight. Born in Beaumont on June 3rd, 1933, Guy was the youngest of 10 children. He is the son of the late Jesse M. Barlow and Frances Lillie Barlow. He is preceded in death by two children, Catherine and David Barlow; a Grandson, Greg Chipman, Jr.; 4 Sisters and 5 Brothers.
Guy is survived by his loving wife of 65 years, his “Love Bug”, Jeannette Barlow; Two Daughters, Laurie Woodruff and her husband, Keal of Houston Eyde Devillier and her husband, David of Nederland; and Two Sons, Guy (Pete) Barlow, Jr. of Nederland and Michael Barlow and his wife, Suzanne of Nederland. Guy loved and cherished his family, especially his grandchildren who lovingly called him Pap Paw. His Grandchildren are Destiny Serres and Jared Foreman of Nederland, Mandy Henckel and her husband, Russell of Bridge City, Brandi Barlow of O’ahu Hawaii, Kathryn Bass and husband, Lanham of Houston, Emily Blum of Houston, Ally Devillier of Fort Sill, Lawton Oklahoma, Nicolas Devillier of Nederland, Brayden Woodruff of Sour Lake, Justin and Hunter Woodruff of Santa Rosa, Florida; Great Grandchildren, Tori Mattingly of Nederland, Eisley Stansbury of Bridge City, Olivia and Tucker Lamance of Bridge City, Jace Mattingly of Nederland, Camden Clarke of Bridge City, Remington Leblanc of Port Neches; and Great-Great Grandchildren, Leighton Devillier of Lawton Oklahoma, Mackey Marie Bass of Houston and Ford Levi Herring of Nederland; also, numerous nieces and nephews that loved Uncle Guy.
Guy grew up in Beaumont and attended South Park High School. After graduating, he was drafted into the United States Air Force and was sent to Korea to serve in the final stages of the Korean War. After returning stateside, Guy attended Arizona State University for 2 years studying drafting. He soon returned to Beaumont and in 1955 met the love of his life, Jeannette. He did not know at the time, but they would spend the next 65 years together. After leaving the Air Force, Guy and Jeannette wed on Jan 22nd, 1956. Guy began working for Tasty Bread Co. delivering bread initially and later embarked on a career at the Magnolia Refining Company in Beaumont, which would become Mobil Oil Refining in later years. Guy would spend the next 38 years of his life working for the refinery. His first assignment was in the labor gang performing manual labor. He soon began a career that would take him to the upper management level within Mobil Oil Corp. Guy absolutely loved the people and his career at Mobil Oil. He would say “people are what make you want to go to work”, and he truly lived by that creed. Guy loved people and loved to make people laugh. Guy retired from Mobil Oil in 1993 after almost 38yrs of service.
Guy and Jeannette moved to Nederland from Beaumont in 1962, bought a house and started a family built on a foundation of love for God and love for each other. He was a devoted father and grandfather, with unwavering and unconditional love for his family. He spent the next 59 years in the same house providing love and support for his family.
Guy liked to fish and grill in his spare time, but mostly Guy was a people person wanting to be involved in anything that could or would help people. He was an active parishioner of the Catholic Church and a 4th Degree Knight in the Knights of Columbus. He served on the church council, and as a Eucharistic Minister in the church. The one thing Guy loved the most was his grandchildren and spending time with them. Love Bug, Daddy, and Pap Paw will be truly missed but his love will forever live in our hearts.

A Christian Vigil will be held Tuesday, September 7, 2021 from 5:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m., with a Rosary to be recited at 5:30 p.m., at Melancon’s Funeral Home. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10:00 a.m., Wednesday, September 8, 2021, at St. Elizabeth Catholic Church in Port Neches. Rite of Committal will follow at Memory Gardens Cemetery in Nederland.
