Gwendolyn Ann Park

1934 ∼ 2022

Gwendolyn Ann Park, 88, passed away peacefully on September 25, 2022, at Harbor Hospice Hospital in Beaumont, Texas.

A Visitation will be held Saturday, October 1, 2022, from 10:00am to 11:00am at Levingston Funeral Home in Groves.

Funeral Services will be Saturday, October 1, 2022 at 11:00am at Levingston Funeral Home in Groves. Officiating will be Sean Leick.

Gwen was born on August 10, 1934, in Port Neches. She graduated from Port Neches Groves High School. She received her bachelor’s degree from Lamar and her master’s in education from University of Arizona. She retired from PAISD after 30 years of service as a middle school PE teacher, which allowed more time for involvement with service organizations. Gwen held officer positions with Delta Kappa Gamma – Alpha Omega Chapter, Port Arthur Association of Retired School Personnel, Port Arthur Teachers Credit Union, Eastern Star and Shriners.

Gwen enjoyed traveling, woodworking, printing, and bingo, but most of all Gwen enjoyed being around others. She considered all her friends as family. Gwen was very appreciative for the relationships she had with each friend.

Gwen is now rejoined with family and friends that have gone before, including her close friend, Betty Madole. She was preceded in death by her grandparents, Ernest and Lettie Block, her mother, E. Loyce Park, and other family members Jimmy, Mary, and Jill Wooten. She is survived by James Wooten and wife Miranda.

Gwen, with her sweet smile and giving personality, will be remembered forever.

I had the pleasure of working at Edison MS from ‘81-88. Getting to be around Gwen was a delight. She was a ray of sunshine in everybody’s day. I feel very fortunate that our paths crossed.

Gwen lived across the street from our house on Lillie. She was always so friendly and such a good neighbor. After Daddy died in 1994 Gwen spent a lot of time visiting and checking on my Mother, Norene Nunez. When it became more difficult for Mom to get out a lot Gwen was at her beck and call. She was willing to help any way she could. Mom was as independent as she could be but it meant a lot to her to know that Gwen was there if she needed her. And she would pick up Mom's lottery ticket a lot of time and Mom would pay her back. Unfortunately neither of them won big! When Mom decided to move with us Gwen helped with her estate sale and made that transition a little easier. She led a life of service and it continued to my family and we will forever remember her so fondly! Thank you, Gwen.

What a delight Gwen was. I not only had her as a teacher, I got to do my student teaching under her, and when she retired, I took her place. No one could have ever filled those shoes! The food (cakes) made by her mom were to die for! We had the best time in the Girls Gym! Blessed I had to teach my first year in a different department, so I got to work with her. Last visit at the nursing home with Gwen was so special. Always had a smile on that face! God Speed my friend! Until we meet again

I learned more about teaching from Gwen the many years I taught with her than I ever learned from anyone or any course I took. She was a master teacher and even more awesome person. She will always be fondly remembered. Judy Beasley

Gwen supervised my student teaching at Thomas Edison in 1970. I was so fortunate to work with such a passionate teacher and understanding individual. Watching her interact with the junior high girls reinforced her high standards and the respect she held for everyone with whom she came in contact. She had a very positive impact on my teaching career. I have great memories of the time we spent at the camp and later just hanging out in Pt Neches. Gwen did have a big heart. She loved to laugh and have fun and was a good friend to many. She lives on in those of us she touched. RIP dear friend.

First met Gwen when Mick and I started dating. Big grin, big laugh, bigger heart. It was always obvious that Gwen’s friendship meant so much to all of the Phillips family. You are missed. Love you.

Aunt Gwen was one of a kind. I have vivid memories of going to her camp with Aunt Betty and spending time in the cabin ... playing Yahtzee and card games, and doing puzzles. She always had a kind word and made me laugh. She had a big personality that filled up a room. She loved kids. I remember discovering that she was a teacher and thinking she would be one of the cool ones. I have no doubt she was. She was kind and generous. She will be missed.
