Harry Thomas Roberts, 88, of Groves passed away peacefully at his residence on December 20, 2016. He was born in Paw Creek, North Carolina on March 28, 1928, to John and Kyree Roberts. At the age of 17, he began his adventure at sea as a Merchant Marine ferrying American troops, home from World War II. He later went to work for Gulf Oil Corporation marine department where he advanced to Chief Mate, becoming the youngest Chief Officer in the company at that time. While recovering from an injury in the Marine Hospital in Galveston he met his wife of 60 years Mary Elizabeth Joeris Roberts. After marriage they resided in Groves, Texas. He later accepted a position as a Chief Officer with Sabine Towing and Transportation Company in Port Arthur, Texas, until he would retire from the sea in 1985. Following his retirement, he enjoyed being home, working in his yard, tinkering with his projects and spending time with his family and friends. He was preceded in death by his parents, brother, John Roberts Jr., sister, Betty Jean Bost, wife Mary Roberts (4/31/2016) and two daughters Deborah Henderson and Carolyn Guidry. Survivors include sister, Catherine Louise Weaver of North Carolina; sons, Michael Roberts and wife Lori of Port Neches, TX and Douglas Roberts of Austin, TX; sons-in-law, Terry Guidry and Ron Henderson; grandsons, Brandon Roberts and wife Heather of Groves, TX, Blaine Roberts and wife Breah of Groves, TX; granddaughter, Leianne Guidry of Richmond, TX; great-grandchildren, Landon Roberts, Sonja Roberts, Victoria Roberts and Hadley Roberts; many nieces, nephews and close friends. A visitation for family and friends will be held on Monday, December 26, 2016 from 6:00 p.m.-8:00 p.m. at Levingston Funeral Home in Groves, Texas. Graveside services will be at 1:00 p.m., Tuesday, December 27, 2016 at Memorial Oaks Cemetery, 13001 Katy Freeway in Houston, Texas.
