I never realized how important Grandpaws were to little boys until my son came home from a weekend with my parents and he had a homemade arrow. I asked him where he got it and he told me that his grandfather, my dad, help him make it. At that moment i thought to myself, why had I never showed my son how to make a homemade arrow? I realize that there was a reason God gave little boys Grandpaws. Dad's are always busy working and trying to provide for their family so God gave them Grandpaws to teach them things like building homemade arrows. Grampaw taught me many things that I still use today, how drive a nail, how to pour a concrete slab, how to frame out a wall. Grandpaw always had some kind of project going on and was eager to have my help. He taught me a lot of skills but the lessons I value the most are the ones he did not know he was teaching me. The ones that I didn't even know I had learned until I was an adult and a father. He taught me that wealth was not how much money you had but how much love you had in your heart. Love for God, love for your family and love for others. He was a great example of what I want to become. I will greatly miss you and I can't wait to see you again.

I will always remember Hayward as a kind loving gentle man. Hayward could always make me laugh. He cared about people and life. I am sorry I never had enough time to spend with him and Sue, because of the distance them in Texas and me in Michigan. All my love Joan

Uncle Hayward has always been a prominent part of many fond memories I hold of my upbringing as part of the extended Stevens family. My prayers have been with him and his family during this time of the ending of this life for him, and my prayers are with them now as they adjust to his passing. Charles M. Jones

Uncle Hayward was a great blessing to me during a troubled time in my life, and with my own Father (his brother) not able to help me very much. He talked to me honestly and straightforwardly, and made me realize the foolish path I might be on if I kept going, and I listened. Thank you Uncle Hayward for helping me get back on the right path. I will miss you, but look forward to catching up to you in heaven. Michael
