Hazel Frances Judy Nobles

February 6, 1940 — June 25, 2011

Hazel Frances (Judy) Nobles, 71, of Port Neches, passed away peacefully Saturday morning, June 25. Surrounded by her children, husband, and two of her sisters, she went home to be with the Lord Jesus after several months of illness. Hazel was known to her family and friends as "Judy", a name given to her by her mother. She was born to W. H. and Oma Thompson on February 6, 1940 in Henderson, Texas. Judy was the fourth daughter born into a loving Christian family. She grew up in Jeanerette, Louisiana before her father moved the family to Nederland when she was 12. Judy was a 1958 graduate of Nederland High School, and attended Lamar University at Beaumont the following year. There she met her husband of 51 years, James Nobles, through active involvement in the Baptist Student Union on campus. She and James were married December 11, 1959. They had four children, Margie, Susan, Natalie, and Robert. As a young married woman Judy was actively involved in her church with Baptist Young Women where she served as Associational Director for the Golden Triangle Baptist Association. She taught Ladies' Sunday School classes, and was an active member in her church's choir. In her younger adult years Judy and James were members at First Baptist Church in Nederland, and presently at First Baptist Church in Port Neches. During her adult years she worked at various jobs. She worked in her sister's floral shop, Vanover's Flowers in Nederland, where she was gifted in putting together beautiful flower arrangements. Next she worked for Texas State Optical in Port Arthur and then Nederland as a receptionist. Then she went to work at the Beaumont State Center in the clerical department of the Food Services operations. Finally, her favorite and most enjoyable job was working with Special Needs Adults at the Nederland Special Adult Center. After retirement she enjoyed traveling to many places with her husband. Judy was actively involved in the Order of Eastern Star of which she became a member in 1969. She served as Worthy Matron on three separate occasions for Nederland Chapter 1079. Eastern Star was a big part of her life, and she enjoyed many functions and trips with friends from her chapter. Judy was a loving and caring wife, mother, and grandmother devoting herself 100% to the good of her family. Truly her life emanated the love she had for the Lord in the way that she loved her family and friends. She was truly a servant at heart, and this was her joy. Judy was preceded in death by her parents W. H. and Oma Thompson. Her survivors include her husband James E. Nobles of Port Neches; her daughter Margie Nobles of Spring; Susan Domingue and her husband Larry of Dayton; Natalie Talbot and her husband Byron of Anchorage, Alaska; and her son Robert Nobles and his wife Kimberly of Groves. She is also survived by her sisters Glenda Burnaman and her husband Tom; Ann Chapman and her husband Eddie; Mary Dennis; and brother Karl Thompson and his wife Susan, all of Nederland. Also a brother, W.H. (Joe) Thompson and his wife Pat of Clute. Her grandchildren are Jaymi and Kyrie Brough; Brandon, Justin and Kevin Domingue; Lewis and Alex Talbot; and Marcus, Jaxon, and Robyn Nobles. She is also survived by numerous nieces and nephews. A gathering of family and friends will be held on Wednesday, June 29, 2011 from 6 - 9 p.m. at Levingston Funeral Home in Port Neches. Funeral Services will be at 10:00 a.m. Thursday, June 30, 2011 at First Baptist Church, Port Neches. Burial will follow at Huntington Cemetery in Huntington, Texas.
