Hazel Fitch Richard, 97, of Dallas, Texas., passed away on Saturday, February 24, 2018. Hazel was born in New Iberia, Louisiana on May 24, 1920 to the late, James Fitch and Emmatile Segura Fitch.
Hazel attended the Austin School for the Deaf and she forged a way for herself and her two sisters. She met Helen Keller on two separate occasions. Helen Keller remembered Hazel after their first meeting. Hazel was a remarkably strong woman who worked her way up the ladder at Brown and Root for over 40 years before retiring as the Supervisor of Secretaries. She was so incredibly loved and revered by her family and friends.
Those left to cherish Hazel’s memory are her brother, Jimmy Fitch and his wife, Audrey of Port Arthur; her sister, Mary Evelyn Floreke and her husband, Willie of Taft and a host of loving nieces, nephews and great, and great-great-nieces and nephews.
In addition to her parents, Hazel is preceded in death by her loving husband, Jack Richard.
A visitation will be held at Melancon’s Funeral Home in Nederland on Saturday, March 3, 2018 from 11:00 a.m. – 12:00 p.m. with a graveside service to be held at Greenlawn Memorial Park in Groves immediately following the visitation.
