Helen Yvonne Gautreaux Bearden, 71, of Beaumont, Texas passed away on Tuesday, March 8, 2022 at her home surrounded by her loving family. Helen was born on August 13, 1950 in Port Arthur, Texas to the late Nathaniel Gautreaux and Alice Broussard Gautreaux.
Helen was a very humble Christian woman that had a strong set of traditional values. She took pride in passing her values along to her family, and she made sure that they embraced her Cajun heritage. Helen’s work life revolved around serving others. She was an educator to the hearing impaired children for the Beaumont Independent School District and a 911 dispatcher for the Jefferson County area for more than 25 years. Helen enjoyed playing poker, sewing, quilting, traveling to places like New York with her family and friends, and never missed an episode of the Wheel of Fortune. She was an avid sports fan and liked the New Orleans Saints and the Houston Astros, but Helen loved watching her grandson, Grayson, play baseball more than anything. She was a loving mother and “Meme”. She had a special relationship with each one of her children and grandchildren, and her daughter, Kristen, was her very best friend. Helen was a kind and loving soul, and she will be truly missed by all that had the pleasure of knowing her.
Those left behind to cherish Helen’s memory are her son, Nathaniel Garrett and his wife, Kristy; her daughter, Kristen Saatzer and her husband, Duane; her grandchildren, Shawn Matthew Garrett, Rebekah Jean Garrett, Jaren Langlinais, Grayson Saatzer, Drew Lynn Saatzer; her sister, Elizabeth Dale and her husband, Larry; and numerous loving nieces nephews and friends. Helen is preceded in death by her parents; her brother, Russell Gautreaux; his sister, Judy Todd; and her brother-in-law, Ray Todd.
