Helen Yoakum Estes, 90, passed away Tuesday, December 8, 2020 in Houston, Texas.
Helen was born on April 3, 1930 in Beaumont, Texas to Rema Yoakum and Lee Yoakum.
She graduated from Thomas Jefferson High School in Port Arthur, Texas, where she was a proud member of the Red Hussars Drum and Bugle Corps. She married Thomas Howard Estes, also from Port Arthur. After living a short time in New Jersey, where Tom was stationed in the US Army, they returned to Port Arthur. Helen worked for decades at the Southern Union Gas Company until retirement. She was a devoted member of St. Elizabeth's Catholic Church in Port Neches.
Helen and Tom loved square dancing and would travel in their RV across the US from Mexico to Alaska. Much of their time was also spent on their property at Toledo Bend in east Texas, fishing and relaxing together.
Helen was preceded in death by her husband, Tom Estes, her mother, Rema Yoakum Bailey, her father, Lee Yoakum, her sister, Elaine Yoakum Burch and her brother, Allen Yoakum. She is survived by her sister, Bettie Yoakum Shirley, sister in law, Marie Estes, and ten nieces and nephews along with many great-nieces and great-nephews, whom she loved so dearly.
Graveside services, officiated by Fr. Sinclair Oubre, will be held on Tuesday, December 15, 2020 at 11:30 AM at Greenlawn Cemetery, 3900 Twin City Hwy, Groves, Texas. A Memorial Mass will be said at a later date.
